can you call me

twkitch says:

The number one casue of this is overtightening belts. With this poorly
designed crankshaft bolt you have to back off your belts until they squeal
then tighten them just until it stops. If you guys want to read up a lot
more on this problem check out kiaforums you will find a whole lot of
people who had the same problem and you will find out other problems like
your engine eating intake butterlies (recall for that problem) another poor
design

twkitch says:

Forgot to mention the new bolt of a bit stronger design is a gold color not
grey/silver

Elodia Casimiro says:

its really a mess when you have to experience such with bolts breaking off
that can cause an accident.

valentegonzalez65 says:

and why they don’t put two bolts.one one each side the kia manufacturers
got to be suit.Im agree whit you guys

unio06 says:

I have a Kia Picanto 2005 se it had the crankshaft pulley bolt
manufacturers fault and the bolt is to short and gives to much play.they
replaced the crankshaft in July on a good will jestuor and now ther is a
tapping knocking sound when I exelerat between 2000-3000 RPM it sounds like
the exhaust rattling is the only way i can describe it. I am on the kia
owners forum and there are a lot of us on there

valentegonzalez65 says:

I CHANGE THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR 5 months ago .this means the next problem is
the CAMSHAFT bolt. Those suv truck not very good like they said.

Tom Marcinkus says:

Mark, I’m currently having this issue with my 05 Sorento and waiting for a
call back from Kia Corporate. I’m sure that’s a waste of time but I’m
trying anyway. Where are you in terms of the law suite?

Mark Wymer says:

Going to file class action law suit on this. I’m in the process of
contacting an attorney to take this case on. Anyone interested in joining
this claim contact me.

kimbertex says:

I had a problem with the crank shaft bolt as well which led to needing a
whole new engine. The car had less than 100,000 miles and thus should have
been under warranty. The Kia dealership refused to acknowledge the warranty
saying the bolt was not warrantied, the harmonic balancer was warrantied,
then part between the harmonic balancer and the crank shaft was not
warrantied but the crank shaft was.

Duchy4u says:

I have the same problem and the Kia dealership I went to blames the problem
on where I purchased from a used car lot Kia dealership replaced this in

S KD says:

Hi, Were you able to get your car fixed? Did you have to replace the engine
or was your son able to fix the crankshaft by drilling out the pin? My 2005
had the same thing happen about a month ago. They are quoting me $3500 to
fix!!!!

Daniel Cardona says:

Is this just on the 2005 model year? because i am thinking of getting an
2003.

joe4654 says:

hey how its going so how did u make out getting the bolt out , having the
same problem with my , 2004 kia sorento have it in a repair shop now , my
blot is seized inside the crankshaft it may have to be drilled out , hope
they can fix it so i can trade it in , ….. kia suck they knew about this
problem ………..its all over the internet

Steve cl says:

I was thinking why not replace the bolt with an 8 grade golt with washers?

Annie Last says:

Curtis, my 05 Sorento, had timing belt replaced in March. Saturday I heard
squeaking sounds under the hood. 1st thought it was another car. Next day
same thing & my battery & brake lites came on. Looked under the hood &
notice that the belts were barely turning. Monday, took it in and my bolt
had broke in half. The Kia dealer said they tried to get the broken piece
out, but could not. Now they are trying to sell me a new engine @ $5K. If I
got another engine, the same thing could happen again!

tubby dobbs says:

Unbelievable how many times this has happened to the Kia Sorentos. My 2006
is in shop now for this problem and once running again going from there to
be traded in at a dealership on a new vehicle..NOT A KIA!!! Kia needs to
take responsibility on this issue before someone gets injured or killed on
the road when this pin breaks.

J Rom says:

Curtis, thanks for the video…. I just checked a co-workers KIA after she
said she heard squealing noise like belts slipping and her battery light
came on. The belts and pulleys seem to be running smoothly and no noise
when I looked under hood. Checked AC comp. and no noise either. Did you
hear anything with your problem or did it just happen suddenly. She said
vehicle felt like it was going dead.

Duchy4u says:

You need to contact attorney shmuel Klein he is willing to take a case for
the crankshaft bolt. He is in east orange nj.

Duchy4u says:

contact attorney shmuel klein at shmuel.klein@verizon.net

Sheryl G says:

I had the same problem in 12/2011 and Kia would not pay for it even tough
in some areas it’s a recall including some areas in NJ where I’m from.
Also, I just recently (1 week ago) experienced the same problem and have
the bolt to prove it including paperwork from a non-Kia mechanic that
specifically states thing this is a result of the crankshaft pulley bolt.
There is a class action lawsuit being handled by the Law office of Shmuel
Klein, in Mahwah NJ which I found on one of the Forums.

Ron Jamorabon says:

Video is very well explained. I encounter similar problem, as I was about
to park when I heared noise and all of the sudden my steering to difficult
to turn. find out the bolt broke in half. I already submitted my complaint
and hopefully government will force recall on this mickey mouse design. I
called Kia but they can not help me becuase it is not a recall.

Sean Hohensee says:

Had the same problem 1 month after having my timing belt and crank sensor
replaced. KIA has a service notice out saying the crank bolt should be
replaced and not reused once removed, but no recall on the 2005 Model year.
Mine came loose and allowed the crank pulley to wobble badly enough to spin
my belts off while driving home.

Curtis Cutts Bey says:

It’s a mess got to find a good mechanic!

bleichmanklein lawyers ny nj says:

the Law Office of Shmuel Klein PC has filed a nationwide class action law
suit against Kia and Hyndai. They can be contacted at 845-425-2510

Steve cl says:

After talking with Kia tech yesterday they replace the bolt with a sedona
bolt fixes the problem.

MrGreg87654 says:

Hi Curtis, You have made a very nice video of your problem and although I
am not a professional Auto mechanic, i am a mechanic. Not to fault your
mechanic son or you, but the drive pin you are talking about grinding into
nothing, well that drive pin is not a problem. You yourself said that you
drove the car home after the power steering failed which is when the bolt
broke, which is where the pin damage came from. The bolt that broke is the
issue, it broke from being a poor design.

Leo Firson says:

Hi, Curtis, thanks for info. I currently have this problem with 2005 kia
sorento 90k miles, but my bolt is still in its place but became loose and
whole crankshaft became lose. Vehicle is still drivable but I’m afraid to
drive it so I’ll call tomorrow my favorite mechanic guyz to tow it and
change this crankshaft shit. I hope I wouldn’t be forced to change this
crankshaft thingy every N miles. KIA, you should fix this.

Shannon Mayhew says:

im glad i saw this. my mom has an 05 sorento with 87k miles on it. Now this
gives me another reason to be scared of this suv. Right now i need to
replace the u joints and carrier bearings plus its got a front end burning
smell that no one can find the source of. Kias are crap i think we need to
boycott those cars. We have a sport trac with all most 200k on it thats an
05 and my Silverado has almost 140k on it and they havent had any of the
issues that kia has had!

ggod408 says:

Thanks for posting this! Any updates?

Curtis Cutts Bey says:

The price of all the repairs from a year ago I could have got a rebuilt
engine for much less!

gotalambodiablo says:

This just happened to my wifes 2006 Kia Sorento. I was able to use a angle
air drill and drill a small hole in the broken piece of bolt still inside
the crank shaft. Then used an EZ out to get the broken piece out. I only
removed the lower engine cover and the electric fans. Only took about an
hour total. Going to Kia tomorrow to get a new bolt and pin…

Annie Last says:

Curtis, did a machine shop drill out your broken piece of bolt. How did you
get it out?
