+Raul Perez, I cannot reply to your comment for some reason so I hope you
see this. It sounds like the belt was way too tight. Maybe it is the wrong
belt, did you compare the size of the new and old. The new belt should be
pretty much the same size (maybe slightly larger because it isnt stretched
out). The other thing is you could have routed it incorrectly. I would
check those two things and let me know if you find anything.
Good stuff Chris.. very detailed and easy to follow instructions.. My belt
was making the exact same noise on start-ups.. used the water spray trick
and sure enough it was the idler pulley.. you saved me hundreds of dollars
in mechanic labor.. thanks a ton.. keep up the good work bud
Even cheaper, buy a new bearing, and hammer it in. There’s no need to buy the
whole pulley, unless it’s bent or otherwise damaged.
However, depending on the price of your particular pulley,it might only be a
few dollars more to buy the whole assembly, instead of just the bearing(s).
wow! this is super helpful, started to hear that same squeaky squeal two
days ago, (ford Taurus) opened the hood and was wondering if the Alternator
or power str gone bad. but now i am going to check the idler pulley and
tensioner!..was worried it was timing belt, or flywheel issue (not a
mechanic) but this looks do-able 😉 thanx
Dude, your videos rock. I’ve seen so many fix-it videos and yours are BY
FAR the most comprehensive. Thanks for doing this stuff!
Thanks a lot, well done job….Rigo
Thanks for this Chris. I got dinged $370 from my mechanic last year for
this. Bastard!
Love your videos. I willALWAYS check with you before taking my vehicle into
the shop from here on

minutes goes away but when is cold is noisy im so frustraided because
sounds like old junk truck it has only 45 thousand miles where else yo

GREAT video buddy. Consider me subscribed! I’m going to do this repair
myself in the next few days on my 2001 Nissan Xterra. I’m almost certain
the bearings have gone on my idler pulley as its making a nasty crunching
and almost like a “ringing” sound.
I have taken my car in twice to get this fixed and it has not been done
properly yet. I waited 2 1/2 hours both times, and now I have to go back.
I didn’t realize how easy this task was. Sad, I wish you were my
mechanic!!
Blend door sorry
Hey do u got any video on how to change crankshaft sensor on 2003 kia
Sedona HELP PLEASE THANKS
damn finally a got step by step video, thanks man save me a lot of money
and time
How do you change a tensioner pulley
Make sure you change the bearing or pulley before it freezes up and eats up
your belt.
Thanks for posting the vids on the belt issues. Greatly appreciative of
this. I’ve never been really good at working on cars, but this and some
other clips I’ve seen on your channel really break it down and makes it
easy to understand. Your’e saving me labor costs! Cheers to you my friend!
Once you have the pulley on, but before you put the belt on, should the
pulley turn freely? We can’t turn it with our fingers now that we have
tightened to bolt.
Nice Job . Very good Illustration ,Best I’ve seen
Super video Chris! Clear explanation and your voice is clear on the video
too. Thanks dude! Please continue posting videos.
i may be able to get a drill in there but im not really sure how to drill
out a bolt? is there a easy way to explain it? Thanks!
Hi Chris,
I have Ford Ikon flair 1.6 petrol model in which the total belt

my hands to the pulley easily for the replacement. Please I need your
help.!!!
Replaced belt and idler pulley but the belt moves off the pulleys a bit.
Any suggestions?

side.

I have 2005 sonata and got noice from idler pulley. How can I find the

I’ve to tank you very much Chris for taking your time to help others, your
videos are very easy to follow… Today I can start bragging to my friends
and girlfriend that About ditching my greedy mechanic. Kudos man… Good
job..!
Very well done video. Thank you.
Excellent presentation. Explanation short, sharp & straight to the point.
Easy to understood theory & practical. Double thumbs up & a big thank you
to you for very useful info & tips. I liked your way of tutorial, slow &
calm. You are Professor Genius Sir David Einstein of modern mechanical
engineers. (:-)
hello there i have a corsa b and i dont know much about cars but i have a
much noisyer different nise in my enging i got told it might be the pully
bearing becasue when its running the nois appears to be from there but not
quite shure whats a economical way of seeing wether htis it the problem
Chris , I had my transmission fluid , timing belt , serpentine belt and
water pump replaced two months ago. Now I’m hearing a sound that I’ve never
heard before and my mechanic tells me that he couldn’t see what the problem
is because when I took it back to him , the noise was gone . but it goes on
and off. it usually comes on in the morning when I first start it after an
overnight rest . My mechanic says the only problem that would make sense
would be the idler pulley . is that possible considering it goes away from
time to time ?
My 03 dodge ram does the same thing could that be it and also has a #6
misfire what culd that be i just changed the sparkplugs
Chris do you have a video to replace the pulley tension-er on this same
Ford engine
How do I change an idle pully on a 2000 Lincoln LS v8
Chris, this is fantastic. I’ve watched the spray bottle diagnostic test
video and both the idler pulley and belt tensioner pulley videos. I have
this issue in my wife’s car and despite not even testing out what the issue
is, I am already confident I can not only determine the source but also
resolve. Thanks a lot!
my buik lesabre 98 makes the same sound even harder i already change the
idler pulley but its still there the sound. but the belt looks realy bad i
dont know if tat can cause the bad sound.
There’s so many pulley’s i really don’t know which one i need to fix on my
car, but the mechanic did mention the belt as well, so i think it’s this
one. He’s charging me 200 dollars like really?
perfect . well done job , I have question please , how to fix airbag bulb
on (Dodge caravan 2005 Engine 3.3)?
Great video man.. U n Ericthecarguy r my fav.. Do a one where u do a timing
belt change on a older model cars
brilliant videos! the focus on the video and everything.. love every single
bits of small details in your videos.. and of course, DIY stuff. who hates
it right? you just earn my sub
If you have a simple welder, you might try tack welding a bolt head onto
it. Then use a socket to take it off and replace the nut. That is simple
(if you have a welder). Im guessing you cant get a drill in there and just
drill the bolt out?
