How to Remove and Install 2013 Kia Optima Steering Wheel Airbag ~ Button Fix!

GunBlue490 expands into the world of automotive repair with this video. Airbag systems are similar in function, but the methods used to secure and remove them differ widely, even within the same make and model, through the years. Watch how simply the 2013 Kia Optima steering wheel airbag can be removed, and with these instructions, you can see how to do it safely, without the danger of blowing the airbag with potentially lethal force. In this video, you will also see how easily an otherwise expensive repair was made to a broken, detached mobile phone button module, using readily available industrial epoxy. This otherwise costly repair took less than 15 minutes with available materials, not including epoxy setting time, and undoubtedly saved hundreds of dollars of labor and parts.

I need to replace the clock spring in my fiancees 2013 kia optima hybrid. Her steering wheel configuration looks identical to yours. One question, I would have to completely remove the steering wheel to get to the clockspring correct? By undoing the large center nut holding the steering wheel on? Thankfully i found this video, I feel 100x more confident going into my clock spring fix now. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!.

I stumbled on this video by a coincidense when scrolling through your gun related videos. I have a different car, a Renault Clio and god knows you need a good portion of elbow grease and a sixth sense when it comes to finding good DIY videos to keep that excuse for a car rolling.. Of all the DIY vids I have seen for the Clio, no one beats this one for crisp, clear and easily understandable information necessary to pull the work off. You haven't thought of work as an editor for Haynes? 🙂

Matthew Petree says:

The same thing happened to me. You did the time consuming work for me. Thanks

Gunblue 490, please do a video of your opinion of carrying a pistol for protection with a round in the chamber and not having one loaded.

I have a concealed permit and carry a weapon to be prepared for the day it is needed (hopefully never). It is my believe that not having a round in the chamber is safer. I carry my pistol daily and not having a round ready to fire will never have the chance of going off accidently. The way that I carry has my pistol pointing in the area of my femoral artery and if it were to go off the results would be critical.

It is a trade off of not being able to pull my gun out and shoot instantly. I don't live in a war zone and the time it takes to make my pistol ready would take a second longer I feel that my decision is a good one. I would like to hear your opinion.

Thanks

What's the sectional density of the airbag when it hits your face?  Ha  Just kidding.  Are air bags boat tailed?  Ha  Can't help it.  I'll be 69 on Monday and I have to kid someone else now as I've kidded myself too long.

always enjoy your videos, you did a good job. Very handy.

Well done on the repair. The third wire is for grounding the horn circuit. There is a mystery surrounding the air bags. With care as you have done enables the removal and installation without setting it off. Should you set it off it will go BANG, but you are used to noises like that with the guns. I do enjoy all the gun clips you put up. Cheers from NZ.

Man!! You're a genius. I don't own a Kia, but I'm sure someone will benefit from this most informative video.

Disturbed Maynard says:

Nice to see a do it yourself job. Though I can't imagine the hassle it would be to try and get a replacement part. Always need to be able to improvise and adapt.

Danny Rumbles says:

Kia builds good vehicles. Thanks for sharing!

tubeonline629 says:

Nice work, repairing it yourself rather than taking it to a shop probably saved enough money to purchase a new firearm.

Matt says:

Super glue would have fixed it instantly.

Craig Johnson says:

I don't even own a Kia, still watched the whole thing. Love your vids.

Zanti Misfits says:

Well…now you’ve set a precedent with a non-firearm video.

I had to rebuild the tilt steering column on my 77’ C10 square body and it was by far the most difficult thing, mechanically speaking that I have ever done. I completely rebuilt an iPhone once and that was still easier.
