Note: This has been working fine. No Issues. Rio now has over 182,000 miles
on it…:)

Thanks for sharing this video friend. Today I went to change the engine oil
and transmission box my Kia Rio 2002. Notice that if you remove the metal
nut, which is to the right of the plastic cover, this allows you to let the
air out, and the oil comes faster. I learned today. I subscribe, maybe you
teach me things to repair my car by myself. Greetings from Nicaragua!

Awesome info. I also had to replace my rear and front wheel bearings along
with both front axles and now in need of a couple engine mounts and have
noise in my transmission when I let off the gas. Guess I’m a have to find a
good used 5 speed before long. And mine only has 156,000 miles on it now

Alan Crawford says:

i couldn’t help but notice your rear tire cupping on the inside , mine did
the same thing when it needed rear wheel bearings. and it needed them at
around 150,000 miles . just a heads up

Thank you for posting this!

As for overfilling manual transmissions…”Too much oil in a gearbox will
cause the gears to “churn” in the oil more than necessary and create heat
which can be excessive and beyond the capabilities of the respective oil
cooling system to handle (i.e. oil coolers, air flow cooling over the case,
etc) and result in thermal runaway of the oil. In extreme cases the
internals can reach temperatures that will cause distortion/melting. “

suiram4u says:

Hi, did this method work for you on the long run ? I want to do the same
procedure as you, but I was advised against it by a Kia technician. He said
when draining the fluid there might still be some left in there and
refiling with the recommended quantity could overfill the tranny if you go
through the atmospheric vent…What do you think ?

suiram4u says:

And…”It can also cause to much aeration in the oil which could be more
than what the stock breather system can handle, which will reduce
lubrication capabilities (foamy oil doesn’t lubricate well). ”
