Just got a 2002 Cinco wagon the other day. Wow, brazed copper pipe? Nice
work! Thanks for restoring my faith that I might get 150K miles out of this
thing! 2013-08-09.

I have 175,000 on my Rio and will be giving it to my 15 Year old Son when
he is ready for it. It is a fun little car and I have been very pleased
with it.

I though I was the only one who had snow flying when doing any work on my
Rio!

could someone give me an estament on what it would cost parts and labor to
replace a timing belt on a kia rio 2002?

I have an 01 rio with 137,774 miles on it, I had it replaced when I had
68,000 miles on it honestly do you think it could last another 4 days 5
days tops?

TheBGravit says:

A good rule to follow is 5 years or 60,000 miles. Anything over this is a
gray area. There are many factors that determine hold long a belt will last
or how soon it will fail. Your driving habits, whether it is an automatic
or manual and even the climate where you live. If it has been more than 5
years or 60,000 miles, get it replaced as soon as possible because you are
pushing your luck. A couple days or a week should not normally matter, but
you never know.

Thank you for posting this. A number of years ago, my timing belt broke and
destroyed my engine while I was doing 65 mph down the highway in Rush-hour
traffic. THAT was not fun, but it was even worse when we got to Kia, and
they informed me an entire new engine had to be put in. Thankfully, with
some arm-twisting, I convinced them to let the engine be covered under
warranty (10 yr/100K), and I never payed a dime. Since then, I’ve counted
my blessings; I need to have it checked up. Thanks!

TheBGravit says:

Yes it has been done. Do a Google Image search and search for… turbo kia
rio This should lead you to a blue 2004 Kia Rio in the Kia Rio forums that
was turbo’d.

TheBGravit says:

You are most welcome. Losing the Timing belt on most engines now days is a
disastrous experience and a lot of people don’t know, or forget about them
until it is too late. Good to hear that you were able to get the dealer to
replace your motor.

TheBGravit says:

I would say around $300 to $500.00 dollars (possibly more). Depends on what
parts are replaced…You can buy… -Just a timing belt. -A timing belt
kit, which includes the timing belt, tensioner spring, idler and tensioner
pulleys. -A timing belt kit which includes the above stated items and a
water pump and gasket (most costly). It all depends on what you or your
mechanic determines needs to be replaced. If the water pump needs to be
replaced then the costs will exceed $500.00.
