Larry Leisuresuit says:

man, I had to come back and look at this again, my tensioner pulley for this same engine in a 2004 spectra does not have that part that you stick the cotter pin into. the pulley just fops around till it's tightened. it was not there when i removed the pulley and the new one didn't come with it either. there is a small hole for a allen wrench in the pulley off to the left side to insert a allen wrench so i can pull up on it and tighten the belt as i bolt it down but nothing else. do you think something is missing?

245 am now, I think " Maybe" these Korea magicians, did some kind of switchheroo. this is a 2004 spectra, it has 2005 brakes on it and some other things that are later model than 2004. But this pulley thing is NOT an Later design with the tensioner spring, it is a crappier design from EARLIER than 2004. and so it is a "FIXED" pulley. so setting the tension is the responsibility of the dick that is fixing the car "ME". Sooo looks like no one ever mad e a video with the early design tension pulley with manual adjust and then bolt down to the block and leave it be/ i just get to guess since on this particular car i did not bother to buy the repair manuals. because its a Korea car and I thought. my daughter will d rive it a year or two and sell it, anyway. I have a 1991 toyota camry that seems will never die here. i will look at whatever the tension is in the manual for that car and set it to that and and cross my fingers. Japan had better stuff anyway. it;s probably a good spec.

man though. this thing, the 04 2.0 it really does seem like a knock off doesn't it? I mean., the water pumps not driven by the time belt but they sure put it close enough to make you scratch your head.

Korea, i hope they wake the fk up and be the up and coming , setting the standards for as hough as japan, and not go the other shitty espionage knock off crap way that china has been doing.

back at it. i want this done b4 the sun comes up. LOL

days later, still in the driveway apparently there are two types of those tensioners, mine "EARLY" and yours later model, Mine Sucks, yours is more awesome. anyway, i literally have to guess with mine what the tension should be, also, funny thing about that water pump pulley thing. when you have the car in a driveway up on a jack stand, and the engine elevated on that side, the water pump shaft is not horizontal, its angled and the pulley wants to fall off before you can get the bigger half on the short shaft with the PIN to line up. after dropping everything about 30 times and spending well over an hour of back straining , I got some sealant out and glued the small pulley to the mount then glued the larger one to the small pulley. I held it all on till it set a little, that gave me just barely enough time to get the tiny 10mm in there – i am kidding, it still took 4 more tries of dropping everything, but it did work eventually. I hope that pump seal is good cause i don't want to take this apart again. LOl hope this helps someone else. the old seal did not have any gasket sealer on it so i didn't put any on this one.

Thank you for this video Will, I can not tell you how much it helped me do this job. I went and read your patreon page and signed up I liked it so much! 😀

Graham Charlton says:

I need to change the temp sensor on my sportage as it has slight leak and fear it may contaminate my belt is it big job ?

Great video. Good editing and lighting. I had a 2007 Rio I paid to have the belt changed at 65K. As it approached 120K, I was prepared to spend the money but got an offer for a lease I couldn't say No to. I like that car so much. I also liked the car that replaced it. I'm looking at getting a 2011 RIO that "runs rough with 115K miles. I'm wondering if the belt were going bad would that make it sound rough, or would the belt just break and ruin the engine?
I feel like I could do this work, I have most of the tools and have done similar work, but I'm too afraid of getting a detail wrong and ruining the engine. It's also tight quarters working on it.

After  the Whole thing I did in my Elantra, I can say that no matter how Perfect you put  the Needle of Timing tensioner on the Window, it will move after First Run of the Car.—-  The needle or Arrow will tend to move to the Center or toward the Dot; this Tensioner is Tricky and will Adjust itself .

ThePariss333 says:

Why the Tensioner here is 39 Ft lb and the Elantra was 21 Ft lb Being the Same Tensioner or is not ?

Oh yeah, just going to take it to the dealer lmao

Juan Cano says:

21:40 I don't get it, tried torqueing my tensioner to 39 ft lbs and the damn bolt broke. At first I though you meant inch pounds but after searching for a manual it said to torque it to 32-40. Was lucky enough a piece hang out far out enough to barely catch and twist with my nails then it got harder to unscrew, but was able to get it out with pliers. Shit myself thinking I had to get a small drill and an easy out. Bought a replacement grade 8 bolt and installed it to 20 ft lbs. I'm wondering if thats enough to prevent movement, I just don't want to stripp the threads on the cylinder head. Should I at least try 30 ft lbs?

Cody Hill says:

What type of spray did you use to clean the rotors that the timing belt was on?

Michael McNeil says:

Thanks will I did not first belt tensioner and idler on our 06 spectra and after watching your video I realized you and I and many others have anxiety and it is a bitch in this field. I remember my first day as a lube tech at a local ford dealer my knees felt like they were going to buckle crazy stuff. Your speech inspired me Will god bless.

Graham Charlton says:

Great video
How long does it take to change start to finish?

Jay0321 says:

Thanks dude…  This will come in very helpful.  You have inspired me to do this job on my own.  :)I wish Connor would have won the fight.  At least everyone got paid out of it.   It is great that you tell a bit about yourself.  Watching the typical vids get boring sometimes.  It's great to see people who share their personality and other things in videos.

What's a fair price to pay for this service. I'm being quoted $400 in labor by local shops not including parts.
