Thanks for this video man.. I was thinking of going this myself on my 98
Grand Cherokee 4.0.. It has over 200k miles now and runs like a top… But
I noticed my rocker panel on the passenger side where the tack weld are
from the rocker panel plates are rusting and pieces are falling off.. The
outside looks fine but the inside when I put my fingers in the drainage
holes and pushed down the metal was crackling from rust.. I was thinking of
doing just what you did.. but I don’t have a welder.

I was thinking of killing 2 birds with one stone and having tube steel
welded in. Fix the old rocker and have rock rails. They wont be heavy duty
rails but theyd be better the the original panel.

for any kind of rust repair panels to do the same kind of job, a great
source is actually Noram Autobody, you can google it, they have all sorts
of different models including the jeep shown in this video. Great stuff on
how to install them, but for those with no access to the machinery to form
it, you can get pre-made slip on parts on that website.

a mig welder is a great investment. it will pay for itself in just one
repair like this one. a body shop would charge over $1,000 to weld in new
metal. but a good mig welder like the hobart you can get for around $500,
Plus you can fix a lot of things with a welder from lawn mowers to fences.
and you can build things out of steel easily using a welder.

I’m glad I could help! Thanks for watching!

I think it’s just from Harbor Freight. The sheet metal bends pretty easy.
If you need to make a curved piece and don’t have a roller, you can use a
basement support pole or something similar.

Nice work , I got to get off my ass and work on my car!!! What is the brand
of roller unit you used and where could I get one? Thanks

kwg2005 says:

actually I remember now, it was from Tractor Supply, but Harbor Freight
probably has them too.

Jon-Erik Peterson. says:

What do you think of the welder from Harbor freight. Its $100 and I think
its considered a MIG style welder The reviews for it seem really good, and
for $100.. Can you go on harbor freights website and look and tell me what
you think ? Also would that $40 automatic adjusting welders helmet be ok? I
think it goes from 9-13 shades of darkness and does it automatically. My
lawn mower handle is broken, I need to fix that and could you look at my
videos see my muffler can that be welded fixed ?
