I’m doing this on a 03 Liberty KJ. Similar prop shaft set up. Did you have
to do anything special? Within the past 3 days, I’ve went through shaft
ends and…I’m pissed needless to say. Did you have to do anything special
in installing the new one, or just throw it in there, and bolt it down?

matthew hamilton says:

how did you know you needed to replace the front drive shaft?

sgtfreako67 says:

I have the same vibration issue and after I told mechanic it’s a drive
train issue he went ahead and replaced ball joints which made it worse,
won’t be going back after I cussed the shit out of him after paying $460,
do I have to mark the differential with marker or paint to make sure
install is ok or is it just bolt everything back.

wtf my drive shaft is completely different same year make and model

@FarReachFR Hello I liked your video. I how ever need some advice yet i
also need some help as i do not want to spend a lot of money to fix but if
i have to i will. I have a problem with my 99 GRlaredo It is making a
grinding noise in the left front area. I had both cv axles replaced back in
may of this year. i had it in full time 4wheell drive and i was driving in
snow and ice and i heard a pop. now the left front area is grinding near
the differential? my e-mail ahldevils2125@aol.com

Far Reach Engineering says:

@ahldevils2125, It is likely either your driveshaft (or the differential
itself). And if the grinding is only periodically occuring then it is most
likely your driveshaft. Park your Jeep crawl under and see if there is any
play in the shaft. Use both hands and try to spin it, one way then the
opposite way. If you can hear it clunking or can feel play back and forth
then it is your shaft. My jeep made a popping sound similar to your
description and it was the front joint on my driveshaft.

HandSanitiza says:

hey, i just tried spinning the front drive shaft in my jeep and it spins
with some resistants. you have to use a decent amount of force to spin it,
is it fine? its lifetime awd 1999 grand cherokee 4.7 v8. i have very
minimal power to the front wheels and i spin in 2 inches of snow. i hear no
clicking/knocking sounds. but when my rear tires spin enough (speed wise
while on slippery surface) i do hear a clunking sound and i notice the
front wheels are vibrating, but not enough power. any ideas?

Jadezayda says:

I wish I could find one if those in any junk yards anywhere near me, I
really don’t want to buy a new one because i’m selling my cherokee but that
is the exact one I need

anthony aguirre says:

how did you the drive shaft went bad let me know thnks im having problems
with my jeep

ahldevils2125 says:

@FarReachFR OH yeah the grinding noise is when i am drive all the time it’s
also ways there. no grinding thought when i am stopped thought lol I thank
you you for trying to help me. I will looking to this more Thanks and happy
holidays to you and your family

SSstunt1 says:

Hi im haven the clicking problem only when I apply the break. The front
shaft has alot.of rotation play an I knock on it an it makes the noise but
not to sure

TheRockinCactus says:

how long are the bolts? lost mine

denis Schneider JR says:

i have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee with quadra drive all time 4 wheel drive,
my front cv style shaft went bad, i went and removed it and it drives fine
with out it and it seems like i get a little better gas mileage!

Far Reach Engineering says:

I picked mine up from a salvage yard. Give your local yard a call. If not
that try this website out. It is really handy for searching hundreds of
wrecking yards across the country. car-part (dot) com Hope it helps!

btrigger123 says:

I hAAAve A question i need those 6 bolts but idk what size can you tell me
the size including the hieght of the bolts?

Far Reach Engineering says:

Your lift is higher than mine, but I hear around 4 inches you may need to
consider a longer driveshaft/conversion or a transfer case drop. This is
because 1. the angle of the shaft is increasing. 2. you run a chance of
running out of travel on your shaft during large articulation. Do you need
to change? If it is doing what you need without vibration, no clunks or
fallouts at the end of travel. then use it… If concerned do a flex and
check your slip yoke. if its way out, get a longer one.

Far Reach Engineering says:

Should not be anything in particular that you need to line up. Is the split
occuring along the axis of the shaft or splitting perpendicular to the
driveshaft, or is it pulling off the front/back of the joint? I am going to
guess that it is tearing perpendicular to the shaft. The fact that you have
to lengthen your shaft on install seems like the you might be stretching
the boot further when flexing your axle in terrain. My driveshaft must
collapse to fit. A custom boot might be in order.

Far Reach Engineering says:

57.30 mm long in total. 48.65 mm from neck to tip. I have a pair left if
you want them. $5 and I can ship them your way.

simon roy says:

How to remove it? My 12 bolt are remove…I’m stuck there….

Far Reach Engineering says:

The sound is what lets you know that it is going bad. It is a rhythmic
click that can turn to thumping, and then full on impossible to ignore loud
thumping. depending on how long you wait and how bad the shaft is the sound
will get louder and louder as it wears out. Beyond the sound you can get
under and try to rotate the shaft. If it moves and nothing else does, and
clicks or clunks then you found your issue.

Adam Hover says:

Would the durango go the same way

MrRazor565 says:

Hey I have a 2000 jeep just like urs but I don’t have quadtrac I have the
normal 4wheel drive system and a 4.5 lift do I need a different driveshaft
and does it need to be extended bcuz of the lift

ahldevils2125 says:

@FarReachFR Hi thank you for getting back to me. I went inder the jeep and
i pushed up on the front drive shaft and also left to right as well and
towards the front it moved( has play) i then tryed to turn it by hand and
it lets say turned hlaf but not half. I gripped it and just turned but it
would not turn all the way( hope thats good) I also did the same to the
back of shaft where it go into the transfercase and it does not do what the
front does(in the front diff area)

drathvega says:

I have removed the drive shaft on my Jeep and replaced it three times
within the last month because the boot over the cv joint in the front keeps
ripping. I’m wondering if there is anything that needs to be lined up when
replacing the shaft. Why would the boot be blown each time? Each time I
have had to stretch the front to fit into the yoke because the shaft is
slightly short. I’m going to try putting the front end in first this (4th)
time. Any suggestions email me at soas1survive@gmail.com.

Far Reach Engineering says:

@handsanitiza If you spin the front drive shaft your front tires should
move. did they? As for your rears tires spinning and not the fronts do you
have a 4low option? if so, put it in 4low and then see if you get good grip
(spin) with front and rear tires. My GC is quadra-trac all the time. and in
4 high, the back seems to slip a bit before it decides to sends power up
front. that said If I put it in 4low it is good front and back. If still no
spinning fronts there maybe a driveline issue

Far Reach Engineering says:

If you removed the All 12 bolts front and back, you are ready. The
driveshaft itself has some ability to lengthen and shorten depending on
axle travel. You will need to push it together (slip yoke) to get enough
space. You can see this action by grabbing the part near the front and
pulling it back toward the transfer case. For me though this did not supply
all the space I wanted. I still got it off that way, but taking the drive
shaft at the transfer case first works better.
