Thanks very helpful video. I have a 95 country with a 4.0 that tends to
ping a bit under a load and mostly on hot days. I thought the timing was
advanced too far so I loosened the hold down and tried to back it up a
little and thanks to your video I now know why it wouldn’t turn. Now that I
know it’s not the distributor, I suppose searching for a vacuum leak is
next on my list. It has 214,000 on it, so if I find no vacuum leak, I’m
guessing a possible worn timing chain? Does anyone have info on a pinging
4.0?

I missed that punch part…and I think that may be why my jeep isn’t
running. I’ll let you know, thanks for the video brotha! XJ Life!

Richard vanRees says:

I have a 93 Jeep XJ. My Jeep would Start but would hold Idle for a few
second. Then it would Die. The TPS, ISC, fuel Filter was Changed started to
Run then Die again. Test for Fuel Pressure (need 39psi-50psi) Barely Fuel
pressure. REPLACED Fuel Pressure Regulator n Fuel Pump Assy. Same problem.
Replaced Crankcase Sensor. It Ran for 20 minutes. Decided to fuel Jeep.
Went to Gas Station n Filled up. Then went to the same freakin Problem.
Clean FuelRail n Injectors.
Need Help ….Going Crazy!

Thanks for the video! Very helpful to anyone who has an xj. I’m assuming u
just turned the belt assembly to line up the first piston?

maxine smart says:

I did same thing what you did but bolt didn’t line up properly

m medrano says:

So I did it exactly the way you said putting the oil pump at 11 o’clock but
the problem is when I put mine in, my rotor points at 6 o’clock not 5
o’clock. I’m not sure what to do from here cuz this my second attempt and
it’s the same result, a very rough idle which the original didn’t cause.

Richard vanRees says:

Your Video was very imformative. Thanks.

Keenan McClellan says:

Thank you! I have read/watched several exlpanations and videos but this by
far is the simplest explanation I’ve seen.

Mark Silva says:

I wonder if this will work on a 4.2L engine?? Hmmmm.

Vinnie Krische says:

chris aragon says:

plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor. Well now for some reason it will
not start at all. I have the firing order correct (153624) but still.
Absolutely nothing. Started jst fine with before I did this tune up. I’ve
been working on this for the last two nights. Someone please help.

Charlie Richardson says:

This video solved a 3 month issue I had, I even had mechanics over at my
house stumped. I ran across this video by accident watched it and even as
simple as it is. This video made my jeep run right again. Thank you so much
for this video!!!!!

m medrano says:

This engine is a 6 cylinder inline 4.0 right. Are all the 6 in lines the
same? Cuz I’ve got on in my 96 grand cherokee, and I wanted to make sure
the procedure is the same.

Pcwizard20ghz says:

Thank you for the information very useful as I just purchased in 1999 jeep
Cherokee sport with the distributor and of course in-line six

seeking growth Calloway says:

Dallas, do you know the procedure for the 93 jeep cherokee? Would it be the
same? Or different clock positions?

Omniscient CrypticPsyche says:
