Hey Tim, sucks ya had to drill through your bumper, but from the looks of
the space it seems like you could have used a universal extension joint to
get the bottom bolts for the winch on there, but that’s coming from just
watching the vid (may have been totally different from your view). Either
way such a great vid! Learned a ton of how to take everything apart and
great techniques on putting things the way you want them! Hope ya make
some more vids!

Frederick Kaludis says:

As for the holes you cut in the bummer cut off about a 1/2″ length of steel
1″ dia. schedule 80 pipe to reenforce the bummer and weld it to the bummer.
This will act just like a fender washer in thin sheet metal and carry
distribute any load around the holes to prevent them from cracking…

Steve O'Brien says:

Hey I really liked this video especially the remote solenoid install. I do
have one question though. Shouldn’t you be using a roller style Fairlead
instead of the Hawse style Fairlead?

Kyle Roberts says:

Why are you using a synthedic line style fairlead on a metal cable? That
will chew up that fairlead pretty quick.

What are the holes in the hood of your jeep for??? Looks cool

27dcx says:

Good vid. Quick tip: when I label wires, I wrap the tape all the way
around, with a little bit sticking up on each end to make a “flag”, the
tape sticks to itself a lot better than the wires so there is much less
chance of it falling off.
*ah I see you did exactly that later in the vid, nm.

Mark Bielawski says:

Wrong fairlead for steel cable.

John Irwin says:

Lets see a video of how to install a bigger and better steering box and
better motor mounts. I installed a durango steering box in my XJ as well
as synergy suspension poly inserts for motor mounts. Kind of a pain but
some video ideas! keep up the great vids!

yjmoneypit says:

while u had the box apart should have put seperate leads i had interior
switch 3 way inside the jeep so u can control from inside the jeep
having to open the hood to winch kinda a pane no sorry 16:35 lol

Joshua Jeep says:

Tim, great vid. I have not worked with winches yet, but are you supposed
to leave the motor running? If so, upgrading the entire wire system to
include the grounds, alternator, and starter would be best. You would also
want to fuse everything, as any cut to the sheathing of non-fused wire
around metal could start a fire. One more last thing, wire work is very
important. You want to make sure your wires are routed correctly and are
secured firmly. From what I saw you did a great job of this, but for
bleepin jeepers who have no experience this is not that apparent. Thanks
for the great vids, keep it up.

kil3rz44 says:

Tim can I just say Dan made those 2 winch mounting holes hard for a reason,
I was talking with him today and he said it’s sorta used as a theft device.
Be jade obviously if it’s hard for you it’ll be hard for them. Just saying
haha

TheTexasPsyclone says:

Great video. Love your XJ. I have the same exact rig (white 98 2dr) though
mine still has a bit of growing compared to yours. But yours is exactly
what mine aspires to be. Clean and tall and 100% trail ready daily driver.
Well done! Would love to see a full rundown on your rig – specs and all.
That would be a great video.
One note on your install today – whenever possible, you want to put a
backup wrench on electrical studs when tightening (or even loosening)
because if that post starts to spin, the soldered connections inside could
break. Learned this lesson while installing starters on aircraft back when
I was a young A&P.
Great work as usual!

Teddy Monroe says:

Would you say that that bumper is a good, solid winch bumper.

good to know. if i like your video, i should watch at least 30 second of
the commercial and they pay you. i typically skip all commercials, but i
will watch 30 seconds for you since your videos are so good

olds767 says:

Another way to connect those terminals is to put them in a vice upside down
, heat with a torch and fill hole with plumbing solder then stick wire in
pool of molten solder . use flux on wire and terminal first . very
solid connection .

f1y7rap says:

for electrical connections that will likely see alot of moisture, it is
recommended you use a grease to prevent corrosion. Ideally you want NO-OX
grease (can get it from an electrical supply store) you can also use
dielectric grease if you can’t find NO-OX

gui577b says:

I like your videos the best. You have a great sense of timing and
composition. You don’t mumble, and everything’s in focus. I just wish one
of you would invest in some sound equipment. A lav mic and iPhone can be
really powerful.

Great video Tim!

olson795 says:

Why would you relocate the solenoid box especially when you may have $60 in
wire to do it? New to winches and not sure why you would do that.
