Ryan Unger says:

Which bulb would I need for the backlighting? I believe there are about 4
bulbs behind the cluster that do this. My 2 farthest sides of the cluster
are out right now :(

Brock Rogers says:

@sooperknob Does the just change the warning lights? or does this change
the the speedometer and gas etc?

Chrysa Calafut says:

Hey I have a problem with my cluster. The lights for the mph, gas etc don’t
work. I tried replacing the bulb…didn’t work. I even bought a new cluster
instrument….still nothing. I also checked the cluster fuse and it’s
fine…any thoughts?

Shino2600 says:

I am thinking of replacing my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee cluster panel
because of the oil pressure gauge constantly going up, then down to 0 after
few starts. The sending unit was replaced (bought it from dealer so it’s
not aftermarket). My only concern is if I buy a cluster from junkyard or
aftermarket, will it have a different odometer when it comes up? I saw
another post and was told the odometer is stored in the cluster…

Keep instrument panel light bulbs

Payden3855 says:

I tried this and now my car wont start, it beeps when i put the key in but
the lights don’t light up.

sooperknob says:

I *think* this is possible, but I’m not entirely sure. It’s pretty easy to
remove the center console and check. All you need to do is remove the
screws at the bottom of the CD-tray (under the center elbow rest), and then
the screws under the bottom tray below the radio/thermostat controls. The
little tray just lifts out, revealing the screws. Once you get the screws
out, the entire center piece can be removed. But remember, the teal is the
color of the plastic – not the bulbs.

it is a good video

cnn94001 says:

well done. Very easy to follow. Thanks!!

sooperknob says:

@jerrym682 Yes, the PC74 bulb is the same for all of the dash panel lights.
It’s also the same type of light used behind the thermostat/AC controls on
the center dash panel. I hope this helps!

Ryosuke Bukuro says:

all right! Thanks for the info man!

sooperknob says:

I don’t know if I would even bother trying to fix an instrument cluster –
just replace it entirely. You can get a used cluster for the 2004 Jeep WJs
on eBay for about $50 shipped. Probably cheaper at a local junkyard. Follow
the video up to 2:07, and then just drop in the replacement unit. 🙂

sooperknob says:

Just going from memory, I think there are about 15 bulbs on the back of the
cluster. These are the same bulbs used on the center console to back-light
the thermostat controls (fan, heat, etc.). There are also about 5 or 6 on
that panel as well. To do the instrument cluster and thermostat panel
you’ll probably need 20 bulbs or so.

troy carter says:

I finally got them out. It seems they were just stuck in there real good.

crossfades456 says:

The illumination behind my gauges went out andreplacing those lights didnt
do anything, i believe it has something to do with the curcuit board, did
you have any knowledge on this

sooperknob says:

Glad you got it working! Here’s a good shot of how to remove the radio
bezel… wjjeeps.com/radio_remove.jpg

chatanugadotorg says:

Got a couple lights out on my dash. How many lights are there in the
cluster? I’m thinking of going ahead and replacing all of them while I’ve
got it out.

Rick Koenig says:

Thanks for posting this video. It was clear and simple, even I can do it.
Saves me a lot of hassle and expense. Well done!

mrjbuitragoable says:

any idea if its a easy job to remove the tint?

Marie-Claude Cheney says:

So helpfull!! Did the climate control lights and feared doing the dash
because well its intimidating… Thanks, now its not a problem 🙂

This is the good side of youtube.. Thank´s!

Fletcher Douglas says:

Is there a way to change the bulbs of where you put the car in drive,
reverse, park etc. I hate all that teal colored light!

Adam Baber says:

THANK YOU, I couldn’t see from 0-60 @ night

sooperknob says:

I think there are somewhere between 15 and 20 lights total. Can’t remember
off the top of my head!

piero lacherre says:

Can you make one on how to fix your speedometer

sooperknob says:

Thanks! 🙂

sooperknob says:

As I recall the cluster is indeed tinted green, so changing the bulbs may
not have the desired effect.

Will Dorsett says:

How many bulbs are needed total to do instrument panel AND HVAC area?

sooperknob says:

Yes, same kind of bulb!

CDH Weathered says:

Wht if I want to put blue leds in?

steve bickler says:

You are a good teacher, you explained it very well.

sooperknob says:

Not sure what the problem is… they should just pop out with a little
twist using a pair of pliers.

Ryosuke Bukuro says:

How many bulbs would you say there are? I found that superbrightleds com
has led bulbs made for this, but they’re about $1.80/ea. My friend has one
of these Jeeps and I find the original lamps in it too dull for me most of
the time.

chatanugadotorg says:

Actually got my instrument cluster out over the weekend to put in the new
bulbs. Turns out, it’s not the PC74 bulbs but the L00PC121 bulbs for the
illumination lights. They’re even rarer than the PC74 bulbs. At least I’ll
now have 10 PC74 bulbs for when I need them, and I know I can easily change
out the illumination bulbs when they come in. 🙂

djtroycarter says:

I don’t know if it’s just me but I’m having a hard time getting the actual
bulbs out from their sockets on both the cluster and the climate control
unit on my 99 Laredo. Do you have any suggestions?

sooperknob says:

I can’t remember, but it’s easily 15-20 for the instrument cluster, and
another 5 or more for HVAC. I’d say 30 should be a good amount with a few
spares!

sooperknob says:

Sorry, can’t help you. But I would try checking the fusebox first.

jerrym682 says:

Thanks for the help and would it be the same type of bulb to most of those
lights?

mrjbuitragoable says:

I’m trying to change the color of the bulb, i notice the bulb are regular
yellow bulb, yet the cluster lights up green, is there a tint? will i have
to take apart the cluster? i only read forums where just get the right bulb
number (PC74 AND 103) and color u want but like i said would it matter if
there is a tint?
