2013 Nexus 7 Android Tablet Jeep In Dash Removable In Car Install

I’ve wanted to replace my head unit with a tablet for some time, but I ended up waiting for a 7″ tablet with 1080p. As a plus, I was able to incorporate the …

I have both an original nexus 7 and the 2013 and have wanted to do a dash
set up with it for a while. The way you did this is awesome, thanks for
sharing! I plan on doing the same style of mount has you with small
neodymium magnets to hold it in place and a wireless charger behind. I have
a few questions though, firstly, given the strength of the magnets are you
at all concerned about their effect on the device itself? Another question,
what did you use to make the backplate where the tablet is secured? And
lastly, is the eq mandatory to go from Nexus>Bluetooth audio>EQ?>secondary
larger amp>speakers and sub’s? Thanks man, great setup and again thanks for
sharing!

Brian Funk says:

hands down best setup ive come across.. if i were to do this install but
didn’t want to run an amp or subs and just run it through the stock
speakers, roughly how much would it run me to set up .. myself and/or
having someone else do the install

one suggestion i would make is to integrate nfc tags for your phone so that
you can just tap and go and all you hotspot, gps, bluetooth, come on
automatically and what ever apps you want open automatically

Great mod! I have a Nexus 7 in my Wrangler. I’m trying to connect some
cameras to it. Wish me luck!

Nicholas Sgherzi says:

I’m confused on how your using the wireless charging pad, the lin kyou
provided says it’s for Samsung and Nokia. How is it going to work for the
Nexus?

Necrodox says:

I absolutely love your set up, can you give me a run down as to how you
have it all hooked up? I have space to mount a Nexus 7 in my car and I
would like to run my speakers and subwoofer with it. Any ideas?

Mike Hewitt says:

Looks nice john! I like the magnet mount and the cable less charging. I
did a permanent install in my 2012 Silverado and I will never go back. Its
on my youtube if you want to check it out.

Patrick Virgadamo says:

I so want this setup in my F150!

Everyone knows where you car is now..

Kyle Brimeyer says:

How well does the tablet handle the extreme temps of being in a vehicle
24/7? I would like to do this but I’m not sure it the tablet will work when
it gets very hot or very cold.

nativeskuxx says:

that looks like shit lol

Not sure if I’m missing a few comments, but I think you’re connecting to
your speakers through bluetooth?

Barryd72 says:

Nice solution to the charging issue, never liked the crude way some have
done the install by soldering the power and sound connection permanently.
Still waiting to fit my Nexus 7 but not quite so high tech a solution, Also
wanted mine to be removable so I’ve combined a desk stand and hard back
case so charging and sound connections are made through the pogo pins on
the desk stand. Seeing your makes me want to finish mine that bit quicker.

rodrigo de moura says:

Hi John, which Bluetooth are you using?

silversweetz says:

John, this is awesome. Can you point me in the right direction for the
inductive charging? That is absolutely cool!!

John-Patrick McNown says:

Sorry for the delayed response. I went with the Samsung QI wireless
inductive charger for the Galaxy S4, and got it for less than $30 off
Slickdeals. Then we made a bracket to simply hold it to the back of that
dash piece, and powered it with a high power 12vdc USB charger. I’ve got
the guts of the bluetooth receiver behind there too. The charger ends up
being about 1/4 inch separated from the tablet, but is clearly close enough
to charge.

John-Patrick McNown says:

Yeah, if there’s ever been an undeveloped feature on a device, it’s those
pogo pins.
