Hey guys, I just got myself a Jazzy for the first time. I got the sonic
blue and want the American tort on it. My question is if I can get the J
mascis bracket or will I have to drill the all parts one? Any help would be
appreciated.

corduroyfarmer says:

where did you buy the pickguard from? also, did the tape work?

ozboomer says:

Hiya.. I’m a bit of a novice re JMs… Will the allen key for the saddles
fit the roller knob grub screws? What size/dimension is that allen key? How
do you adjust the height of the bridge? Can the screws be adjusted with the
bridge installed? Should I use calipers to measure how much the ‘threaded
insert’ is inserted in the mount before I dismantle it to apply the PTFE
tape? Thanks.

corduroyfarmer says:

thanks. i’ve emailed a couple of ebay chaps and they reckon a squier wont
fit.

TheColdNorthWind says:

yeah, used the Mascis one. And i’ve had the allparts one drilled a little
wider to replace the mascis one. i might switch them back next time i
service them though..

Joseph O'Donnell says:

Where’d you buy it from mate?

Shin Adamski says:

Does shielding plate of brass?

steffenla4 says:

Yeah, considering Jazzmasters and Jaguars tend to be more expensive than
strat’s or tele’s, due to the fact that they are more complicated guitars,
it’s pretty suprising that these are just as cheap. And the Duncan pickups
are good. The overwound bridge pickup is really nice. That’s something you
won’t get on the US ones

fuzzcanyon says:

How does this guitar compare to the Fender classic player series? Can’t
decide which one to get. Cheers!

aukis says:

You are listening to some fine music. What is it?

Jed Thompson says:

I enjoyed the commentary and am looking forward to more videos like this. A
camera stand would be great however but that is the only complaint to be
found. Maybe you could give gear reviews and also pedal setup tricks/tips
and lessons. Thanks for the videos so far.

Nicholas Chacon says:

cool. thank you. so do you think if i drilled the holes a bit wider on the
all parts bracket it would work out alright with the usa pickguard?

TheColdNorthWind says:

Sigur Ros (not sure what song off hand), then Oceansize ‘Frames’, and
Oceansize ‘Silent/Transparent’ (and end of that song when i’m showing the
tape)

aukis says:

Sounded like Sigur Ros but im not sure :[

Nicholas Chacon says:

i have this squier vintage modified jazzmaster…. ordered a usa pickguard
and all parts bracket too. the all parts bracket didnt end up fitting your
jazzmaster? i was told that was the one to go with? so which one did you
end up using that was the right one ? did you use the j mascis bracket?

TheColdNorthWind says:

i got it from someone on a forum, but it’s a standard Fender USA pickguard.
yeah the tape has worked, but i also taped up the saddle screws aswell to
be 100% rattle-free.

corduroyfarmer says:

i bought a allparts pickguard one and it didn’t fit…. there was a little
gap where the cavity is exposed just below the pickup selector switch.
nightmare. the bridge holes didn’t up either.

TheColdNorthWind says:

no idea. never tried them to compare.

Zack Mueller says:

ive tried to upgrade squier guitars with fender parts and it is quite the
hassle. Aside from pickups the parts almost never fit without permanently
modifying the guitar. Im pretty sure fender changes the size of he cheap
ones so you cant spend a lot less and have a way better guitar than the
American. Its their way to trap you into their higher end, more expensive
guitars.

steffenla4 says:

The Duncan designed pickups are pretty good and are made like proper JM
pickups (unlike the japanese ones) The Fender US pickups are probably a bit
better, but considering the price point of the guitar I don’t feel the
difference is big enough to warrant the upgrade. If you’re gonna upgrade
something on this guitar, the bridge should probably be your first priority

jimmyshoegaz3r says:

The mastery bridge will fix every problem the jassmaster is known for .
Well worth the money .

pg123ab says:

Good job, considering you’re holding the camera as well…..anyway I bought
a Squier JM classic vibe (maybe I liked the color? I have an original 64
car). The bridge is horrible and I don’t want to spend $180 for a Mastery
bridge….I am checking on the GFS page to see if they’re Wilkinson roller
bridge fits….so-far I am 1mm off….I think I’ll spend the $24 and check
it out….

catdumpling says:

either way should work fine. if you decide to drill the Allparts bracket,
pick up a stepped drill bit from your local hardware store: they only cost
a few bucks, but they’re made specifically for widening holes in steel
plate. it’ll make it much easier to drill out the holes. alternately you
could get the Allparts bracket and a couple new pots that will fit it. the
stock pots are probably metric size, so you’d want imperial (inch) size, or
whatever Allparts recommends to fit their bracket.

TheColdNorthWind says:

well, other than this bracket they should be fine. i replaced the Squier
Mascis JM pickguard with an ebay-ordered black one that was USA spec – that
fit perfectly. and this tort one also fitted on that guitar aswell. and now
it’s on this one. They’re probably just covering themselves because of the
roller-pot/bracket issue.

melitosse says:

That’s what I did. With a mustang bridge. I completely fell in love with
the duncan design pickups, I was quite surprised. I also re-did the wiring
that was a real mess on mine. the whole thing is a hell of a deal… I bet
Squire will change the price or stop making them soon.

TheColdNorthWind says:

@Nicholas Chacon yeah. it should be exactly the same dimensions for the USA
pickguard

melitosse says:

Is it worth changing the pickups for american ones ? Thanks !
