Dumb Mechanic DESTROYED My 75,000 Mile Jaguar XJ8

I bought a 1999 Jaguar XJ8 with only 75k miles on kit for $1,000. After doing some troubleshooting I found the fuel system was completely dry. After replacing the fuel pump the car tries to start consistently but dies after a second. The internet says it’s likely fuel washing down the cylinders and lowering compression to the point where it won’t start. Today I’m going to try spoon feeding oil into the Nikasil coated cylinders to raise the compression… hopefully it starts and runs after! I hooked up the air intake and sealed it as well, lots of Jag techs mentioned the XJ8 can’t run without the MAF.

It's easy to understand how the engine was mistimed… 1. The ECU told us. 2. When it started on starting fluid the backfires rocked my house. 3. After I fixed the fuel system I could hear it backfiring inside the intake. 4. The absolutely SHODDY workmanship on the engine is the most obvious indicator. If a mechanic ruins all the parts and doesn't put RTV back in the factory spots you already know he doesn't know what he's doing. 5. It never actually ran again after the new chains went on.

If your missing hoses for the intake that can b your issue try the crank sensor

It looks like the cam flats aren't aligned. New guides probably means the cam slipped a tooth going back in. You can take out the bottom cam and move a tooth so the flats line up. Best to check the other side , line up those flats then check flats on the left side. Adjust accordingly.
