My Buddy Buck and I have now done a few of these. It is really no sweat.
Right, no locking of cams down. If they do not move in relation to the sproket/chain, then they do not need locking down as the timing will not have changed.
The exhaust cam must come up in order to remove the tensioner…it is an absolute requirement.
YOu didn’t even lock the the cams down. Skills.
A good tip to check to make sure the cam is rotated in the right position to not have any pressure on any lifters is your can stick your finger on the lifter and spin them if there is no pressure on them.
The cheapest I’ve found near me was $1,200 and they are swearing they have never heard of the zip tie method….
Plan on spending about 4 hours on this, but it was not complicated at all.
I am hardly a mechanic, so if I can do this, so can just about anyone. I posted the video to show how easy it was. This was my first one. I’ve since done this twice more for local people in the Jag club in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Thanks dude, read about this procedure a few places and intend swapping over on my `98 XJ8. Nice to see it in action – lmao at dealers asking £2k (some have admitted to using this method anyway….)
Big help bought a 1998 still running plastic tensioner, need to replace with metal one. Good work
