same thing happed to a 7800 i got
Thank you.
It should look something like (+)—-(o—-(-), and that sounds right on spot with the original adapter, so it should be just fine.
Atair Jaguar power supply question.?
I just recently bought a Atari jaguar on ebay, but it was sold as is because there was now cords that came with it, i was planing to buy a official power supply but i want to test it with one i already have i just want to know if its safe to just test the atria jaguar with the power supply i have.
this is the specs for the adapter i have
IMPUT 120VAC 60Hz 21w
OUTPUT 9VDC 1200mA
and i think the polarity (+)—(@)–(-)
A Nintendo AC adaptor fits and will smoke it.. my friend plugged in my NES adaptor to my jaguar and smoked it.
Hey i just picked up a Jaguar myself and i think it has this problem. Is there any good soldering videos i should watch? Can you PM me with tips? I’ve never soldered anything before and i have a bunch of questions. Thanks!
That sucks sorry to hear about that, I would order both to just be on the safe side. Glad I could help out though, and good luck.
I literally just fried mine this morning going through all my extra old console stuff and didn’t pay attention to the adapter when I plugged it in. Needless to say I’ll be ordering the U38 IC and maybe the reg1 in an attempt to fix this myself. Thanks for posting up this video, very helpful man.
Do not use just a regular universal power adapter as with most of them the polarity is reversed. If you can find a model 1 sega genesis adapter, or can reverse the polarity of a universal adapter, then I would do that.
do you need the official plug or can you use a universal that has the same voltage? will it fry the thing?
I hope so man. I took a vid of it last night and didn’t notice any blown caps. –
Awesome, good luck, hopefully you can get it up and working.
I just picked up a Jag w/ games from a local thrift shop for cheapies. Running into a similar issue, I’m going to try opening it up to see what the damage is. The console powers on but I get nothing but a green/black screen. Going to try to replace the caps and get back to you. 🙂 Thank you for the informational vid!
That’s awesome, I had a feeling you could just sample them out somewhere, I just wanted to get them quickly since samples tend to take a couple weeks.
I had bought a Jaguar with a small collection of games for $10 from a thrift store. It wouldn’t turn on because its power chip had failed (MC34163DW).
Fortunately, whatever caused the failure didn’t take anything else out.
I ended up getting what I needed for free; I ordered the replacement chip (10 of them, actually) directly from ON Semiconductor through a samples request.
Replaced the MC34163DW with an MC33163DW as the 33163 had better specs, such as greater temperature tolerances.
The Jaguar will only take the Current it requires.
@Midget Speaks Not a noob question, it will be juat fine and pull the amperage it requires. Just obviously take into the fact the polarity has jaguars and model 1 genesis are reversed to the normal ac adapter.
n00b question — If I use an AC adapter that has a much higher amperage output than the recommended 1.2 A, will the Jaguar fry or simply only pull what amperage it needs?
@Segadude3000 Definitely a convience with great prices.
Thanks, appreciate it!
cool vid
