Once again great advice.. will let you know how I go..I really like the car…but have been a little afraid of the unknown. thanks to your vids. Not all is bad

Cliff Knight says:

in the Tech2 the new ORPS can be read and registered to the system. However most people simply replace the switch and all works well.

OrthoMotoDesign says:

Yes I dont have any of the other signs you mention with the feul/coolant contamination in the oil.. so I’m hopefull it is not a seal failure. So going down the track of insufficient feul pressure created by faulty ORPS. Just did not see how to access it. also once replaced does anything have to be recalibrated…?

Cliff Knight says:

ORPS reads the HP oil rail for the ECM. ECM then adjusts the rail pressure valve(RCPV) which helps regulate fuel supply. If faulty the engine will be down on power etc. I see ORPS’s on eBay for $65. I did a video on replacing injector sleeve seals, link is in comments above^. Up to 0.48 in that, that’s all you need to do for ORPS on the side of oil rail. While in there give the wiring harness a clean with alcohol and blow out the connectors with contact cleaner. 🙂

OrthoMotoDesign says:

Thanks for more tips,,I’ll try the priming the pump next. It is still intermittant. How much of a role does the ORPS play and is it a big job to replace? do you have any vids on replacement ? Thanks

Cliff Knight says:

just a note on injector cleaner.. the 4JX1 HEUI injectors work at such a high pressure that they’re basically self-cleaning.

Cliff Knight says:

Hey ta Otho…check the injector cleaner won’t effect the O-rings in the fuel system, but other than that a great idea, inside the injectors gets a bit gunked up. For the power loss suspect a bit of air in the fuel lines after o’haul work. Perhaps a new fuel filter, but certainly bleed the hand primer pump above that filter and give her a good pump thru with about a pint of fuel. She should come good as you drive around and fully prime her HP oil rail and fuel system. Typical in most diesels

OrthoMotoDesign says:

Thanks for real simple to follow and well explained videos…My 02 Jack has had recall and injectors replaced.. but seems a little down on power occassionally as if running on 3 cyl. also hard starting from time to time.. Only 147,000.on clock
do you recommend using injector cleaner and if so brand? thanks again for the info

Cliff Knight says:

first check the MIL codes. The procedure is in the manual. The computer may give you a few clues.
Some obvious things – when was the last time the fuel filter was changed? Check that the filter bleed screw is tight.
Usually this fault is initiated by a malfunction in the fuel system. There are many factors. Go to the Australia4WD link in the desriction. Check old posts for similar problems. Also you may join the site and post this question there

Can some hp me 2002 jackaroo was surging and stalling now won’t start

Izzywm1983 says:

Well now they have an engineer trying to work out how to get them all out, I would hope they tried what you just said above but i’m not game to ask in case I insult them. In the mean time, the cylinder head has been removed. So he’s at the point of no return and he’s only just now going to send me a quote! I always thought you were supposed to give a quote prior to commencing work haha! anyway, thanks mate, looking forward to your videos when you’ve got that engine on the bench..

Cliff Knight says:

manifold & rocker cover are nowhere near the glowplugs! Glowplugs are 2 bits 1)outer threaded bush 2)inner plug. If inner snaps off, drill a hole down and thread it,screw in coarse thread bolt, use a puller to ease it out (lots of WD40). If the outer bush is seized, use a LH threaded “Ezyout” to unscrew it. If neither work, buy a new set, measure the diameter at the base of the threads and drill through with that size hole then unwind the thread that’s left with long nose pliers. drill STRAIGHT

Izzywm1983 says:

I asked him to replace all 4 whilst the manifolds are off, now he just called me to say they have to remove the rocker cover to get them out. I’m frightened about the final bill but anyway….. so yeah ultimate question, did you have issues with replacing the glow plugs?

Izzywm1983 says:

Hey Chilby. Great video mate. You said you replaced the glow plugs. Did you have any issues with that? Mine has been running rough when cold most of the time, I thought it was air in the fuel lines. Turns out it was a faulty glow plug. The mechanic said they are known for the glow plugs breaking off when removing them, something to do with the material they are made of and exposure to moisture. So it broke off of course, so he had to remove the manifolds to get it out. See next comment…

Cliff Knight says:

Hey thanks Ian. Yes i’ll film it all the way through. I like a lot about the vehicles, with it’s typically well made Japanese engineering…and most excellent fuel economy (my last 4WD was an army Landrover V8 trooper which used 135km of petrol to go on a flat highway 380km! ) . The chrome bores in the Isuzu engine, the last time I saw that was on a Pawnee crop-dusting plane that was being modified to give 5000 hours engine life btwn overhauls.. and in turbo Porches… She’s a keeper

IanRogerson8420 says:

I’m in UK , we call it a trooper I have 2 of them . Think they are great car . Would like to see a rebuild video . Good post

Cliff Knight says:

Shall do! making the sleeve removal tool at the moment. stay tuned

45Therese says:

Love the jackaroo, even though it has the injector problems, haven’t encountered it yet. Please keep up the videos on the Jackeroo.

Cliff Knight says:

hey thanks Houdini.. my pleasure. yes i’m keeping a video log of the entire project so when I have something informative i’ll post it here. Yes the Jack ( Jacqueline?.. ) weighs 2.5tonne so I can’t tow it on a car trailer with my Falcon.. solid is the word ok.. 🙂

Michael Summerford says:

Many thanks for the great video, I love my Jack also and agree it’s built like a tank. Any chance you could video the work you do to the engine, as I would love to see how it is done. Keep up the good work.

WTheInventor says:

They sure are a lovely car those Jackaroo’s. So much so we have two! Mine is a diesel also which goes nicely but it has a problem.
When I cold start it the oil will take 5 seconds or so before it comes up at which point the oil light is on. Other times I have to turn it off then start it back up then the oil comes up.
Do you have any ideas as for what is wrong?
Any help would be appreciated.

Cliff Knight says:

at 6.26 you will see how to check for diesel fuel in the engine oil
