Well, looks like we found the problem… and it’s exactly what JLEMOND from planetisuzoo.com described. KUDOS! Video 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H80Aqz…

I have same problem with my 2001 rodeo 3.2 do you video on how to replace
pins, last gut that worked on it put a cracked timing pulley on and it
broke while driving, for some reason didn’t hurt engine i think pins
sheared, sure would appreciate you help
the strange combustion noise on pt 1 instantly told me it was firing out of
phase..( to put it mildly) ive heard that noise from everything from a SBC
to a vw rabbit engine..
I am having the same problem. Right bank I can disconect all the coils and
it doesn’t change a single thing. My question before i go pulling the head
apart is. Did both of your cams still turn. I have pulled mine apart 2
times now and re-timed it, and the timing is dead on. Is there a way to see
if this is my problem without taking the cams out? Any advice would be
greatly appreciated
yeah it sounded like your valves were opening at the wrong time
@rdsamford The cams turned… I think.. They did spin inside the drive
gears though after the alignment pins sheared off… that’s why it ran ok
then crummy then ok then crummy… then just crummy. the cams ket
re-phasing themselves because nothing was retaining them anymore. It ran
awesome up till when we traded it… We’d still have it except the frame
rotted real bad.
In hindsight, I probably should have diagrammed the correct relationship of
the timing marks to the lobe positions on the intake and exhaust cams while
I had it apart…
