The Trooper that I travel all over the country in is a carbureted 2.6 with
a Weber carb and an alternator. It needs one hot wire and one fuel line to
make it run. I got the idea from all the 40’s and 50’s tractors still
running all over the countryside. Simple devices easily maintained by
common men with common tools and limited mechanical skills and knowledge.
It’s a bulletproof combination and can be all done using factory isuzu
parts making it a bolt on “mod”.
No, sure haven’t. I’m pretty sure I’ve heard of guys doing it though.
Can you put a 2.3 1991 two wheel drive pickup engine into a 1992 pickup 2.6
4×4
It gets REALLY easy to work on once you get rid of the EFI and go carb,
especially if you use the mechanical fuel pump put a Weber on it. Simple,
simple simple.
You have a perfect timing! I was just about to start getting more info
about 2.6 engine removal:)
Troopers look pretty straightforward to work on, almost ‘child’s play’ 🙂
Quite a lot of space around the engine, accessible components…looks like
somebody long time ago really thought about how to make life reasonably
easy for Isuzu mechanics and therefore extend a life of the engine beyond
usual life span
Do I have to put a fuel pressure regulator on to run a carburetor if it was
a efi
Thanks
Great video man !!!
Yes, no problem at all.
I was thinking about putting a small block Chevy in my 1991 isuzu 2wd truck
have you ever done that?
You have to eliminate the in tank high pressure fuel pump and wither use
the 2.3 mechanical fuel pump or wire in a low pressure electric pump. Napa
sells a low pressure 1-3 PSI pump that works perfectly.
I reckon even drilling that hole in head for fuel pump is not a big
problem, when one can afterwards enjoy a simplicity carb’d engine 🙂
Brilliant tutorial, as usual!:)
Hey I have a 88 Isuzu trooper with a 2.6 and a 5 speed and I was wandering
if a 4.3 will fit in it I read somewhere that it will and u seem to know
tour stuff so I figured I’d ask
Glad I can be of service.
