Great commentary 🙂

hawktb9 says:

Thank you so much for the tutorial! I almost had to remove the alternator
in my wife’s van (it’s showing its age!), when a mechanic friend of mine
told me to whack the starter with a hammer to see if it turns over. I did,
and the van fired up. So, what I have to do is remove the starter and take
it to my son’s job at AutoZone to test it. It could be the solenoids. It
could be the starter itself. I won’t know until they test it. Now, I just
have to get it out first. 🙂

adrian redding says:

lol bolted on my “thor” hahaha

TG Prestwood says:

I have a problem with my starter and I am not a mechanic. This video cracked
me up with the comments about dirt, weeds and dog shit. That is the way it
always happens, not the clean garage floor and the clean clothes.Right on
dude. Thanks for being human.

Dl Caius says:

@Subfightr, good video man! Helped me out with my Jeep cherokee! 5 starts!

oxduckxo says:

you haven’t really worked on a car if you haven’t had rust in your eye.

Justin Lelbach says:

@Zug75 It couldnt hurt removing it, the starter should not move though.
Some starters do have “shims” like washers all stacked up to make the
starter fit correctly, that may be an issue, The starter falls out a bit?!
Are the threads stripped? You could get a product called “locktight”, small
tube bout 3 bucks, put it on the threads and that SHOULD prevent the
starter from backing out if its due to the threads.

stoneysoad says:

@Subfightr Fingers crossed mate…I’ll manage

A W LEMNER says:

Thanks for the introduction to a new tool. I have been in those tight
spaces and needed something like that tool. I am off to get one now since I
have to remove my starter/solenoid today, and it is under the engine in a
tight space. How sweet it is!

phillyguerrilla says:

Nice ratchet!

Justin Lelbach says:

@askmomshesright Yeah I was surprised how stuck the nut was on top of the
wire. The tool I used to remove it is called a “ratcheting wrench” but a
normal wrench will do, this will just save some time, though it is a tad
fatter than your average wrench so it does not fit in places like the
normal wrench will. As you see I had to strike the wrench to break the nut
free. Try adding a pipe to the wrench for leverage, or link another wrench
on if you don’t have a pipe to fit over the wrench.

Justin Lelbach says:

@hawktb9 damn newer cars. I know what you mean, I swear they do that just
to piss us shade tree mechanics off. I can see the designers of the cars
laughing as they draw up the blue prints now “LOL hey Joe! Look where I put
the starter! It will take them twice as long! WA HA HA!!” … 🙁 Good luck
with that starter/solenoid man. Good for you for doing it yourself! 🙂

Christina Smith says:

Thank you for this video! You cracked me up and you helped me fix my van!
The only part that you didn’t chat about was a special little wire that I
had to strip and clamp back to the battery. I got that figured out with a
little help from a “phone a friend” (i.e. my dad) and it is fixed. I
skipped the dog shit though! 😉

Justin Lelbach says:

@whatonewhichtwo Thank you very much friend 🙂

dewinthemorning says:

I like videos like yours, useful, practical. Good decision to make it.

Salvador Sotelo says:

Core: valuable metals that are inside certain parts (copper in alternators
etc.,) that they use to refurbish non-working parts into working parts that
they will sell you at full price of a new factory made part

Justin Lelbach says:

@Slapnuts6931 🙂 You mean a re-manned/rebuilt starter? Or actually take
that starter in and have it rebuilt/rebuild it yourself? I assume you can,
I have never tried it, in fact this is the first time I actually bought a
new/re-manufactured one ($50), I normally just rip one from another vehicle
in a wrecking yard then have it tested for free to make sure it’s good.
Thanks for watching and commenting bro, means a lot to me, I like you.

elevenohclock says:

hmm, my car–98 gmc suburban–doesn’t make a grinding noise, it makes a
clicking noise (one click) and nothing else. thanks for the info!

Justin Lelbach says:

@MichaelCasanovaMusic YAY!! Way to go on changing your own starter!
Congrats.

lpwaqas says:
