There are several reason why a clear coat can peel off. The most common
with many Honda’s are that the amount of clear they put on is just enough
to get a shine. Sadly their clear doesn’t bond well with the color and that
is due to the manufacturer of the base coat. The two best base coat clear
coats are Dupont and PPG, both of course are a little pricey so car
manufacturers go with whomever cuts them the best deal. Clear peels or
separates from base coats that dry like a single stage paint, which that is
a type that almost hardens to a point that the clear just lays on it and
doesn’t actually stick to it. A good base coat clear coat system is
designed for the clear to adhere and bond together. The other reason clear
peels off is it evaporates daily. Most people don’t realize it but clear is
just polyurethane and baking out in the sun everyday, it evaporates little
by little. Actually all paints do, they evaporate and oxidize, this is why
over time your car dulls out. The UV’s in the sun kills plastics and paints
are basically a spay on plastic. This is why it is important to wax your
car, most waxes have a bit of a UV inhibitor in them.

This is “REPAINTING A CAR”… not “Fix peeling clear coat”

Another way to “Fix peeling clear coat” would be to replace the entire
car… but that obviously isn’t what people are searching for

Orbital Tube says:

Finished job looks immaculate, do you mind me asking how much this job
would cost typically?

kenneth man says:

The reason why clear coat peels the lack of car wash and waxing if you how

SuperRobbo92 says:

I was washing my 07 civic earlier and when I’d finished I’d noticed some of
the lacquer had come off on the passenger door, never had this problem with
my previous car, nor had my family. Is it almost exclusive to Hondas?

How much does it cost to do the whole car?

clover831 says:

Save yourself a headache. Don’t buy dark colored cars, so when the clear
coat comes off its hard to see. Lesson I learned the hard way.. Very nice
job though… It is criminal how manufacturers do a cheap job on painting
cars. In the end the consumer always gets shafted.

Alberto Quintanilla says:

How much did all this cost?

Magi Strala says:

Well I’ll be. That looks great! Why does the original clear coat peel off
anyway? It’s not old car. I’ve seen it on every make and model almost.

kamahoo451 says:

Guess I’ll do it the right way so it’ll last. Thanks

mrunknown1221 says:

what brand of paint did you use on it??

mecozey1 says:

car looks good nice job. Personally don’t have access to a body shop but i
found wd 40 actually hides the peeling, dulls the paint but looks better
than the peel.

Airpwr7 says:

Basically this guy sanded and re-painted the car..Of course this would fix
peeling clear coat. If I remodeled my entire house, I would most certainly
have fixed my damaged faucet in the process…..
