Very good video! Is there way way you can be sure it’s the coil pack
before you get the old one out and fork out on a new one? I’m not getting
a spark on the 4th cylinder, and I’ve eliminated the plug and the lead as
causes. Is there anything else it could could cause it?

Jamie S says:

Cracking video. I’m trying to find out which of the 3 cylinders on my
daughters 1.2 VW Polo is misfiring. And now I know how to find out.
Thanks for taking the time to make it :-)

Pat Bordash says:

You were suppose to try the lead wire first and if that didn’t work, then
try changing out the coil pack – you have no idea if the problem was in the
pack or the wire (plus, you need to give the wire back to your friend – you
just kept it.)

Kevin Call says:

Hi,
I have the same problem with my golf mk4 1.4 ..i did also the same like in
this video, also replaced the coil pack, the hight tensions and spark

Great video though!

Michael Calderon says:

what happens if you drive your car with an engine misfire?

Jus Mee says:

My van was misfiring and would “buck” at high speed. I watched YouTube vids
and decided to look for arcing off the coil. Sure enough, there was arcing
from the coil to the transmission fill tube. After replacing the coil it
still misfired when it was warm. Took it to autoZone and had it scanned and
the #4 cylinder was misfiring so I replaced all the plugs and wires. That
took care of the misfire (I think the insulator on the firing end on plug #
had a hairline crack). Ended up replacing the coolant temp sensor too. It
still bucked at high speed but not as much and the gas pedal felt kind of
weak. After thinking about it for a while I replaced the air filter and
that fixed that problem and it drives pretty nice now.

Since1987 says:

hi,I think I may have the same problem with my mk4 golf 1.4 16v but not
sure if its maybe the coil pack,ht lead or s plug im pretty much a novice
at mechanics is there any tips you could give me to distinguish between the
lot ie if it is the lead for example the metal part of the lead could it
bare a scortch stain on it or something if its knackered cheers

tempest411 says:

Some comments about the possibility of a fuel injection issue would have
been good, as a malfunctioning fuel injector can cause a misfire as well.

Motorolo422 says:

Thanks for the help bro

Tallerico500 says:

Excellent video as always! Also that’s probably the coolest engine cover
I’ve ever seen in the way it routes the plug wires.

stays the same,so I change the spark plugs cable distributor cap and rotor
and sitting with the same problem still

2011thebike says:

Great video , thank you for sharing your knowledge , car is fixed ,
brilliant.

Long Range FPV Quadcopter .TBS Discovery says:

could it then be an injector problem.

Long Range FPV Quadcopter .TBS Discovery says:

what if your car don’t have leads just a unit and you have changed the unit
and the spark plugs and still same problem.

very good video

Isaiah Jack says:

ive got a VW polo and is misfiring quite bad, theres a coil pack that does
not fit on the engine properly because the right fit is hard to get for a
polo.any ideas what to do?

Kevin Call says:

Where i bought the coil pack he said it is original the brand is bosch not
a cheap one but my mechanic said this is not original
I have checked the spark plugs and high tensions they are good

Rorro Hernández says:

Thanks for the video. I have a question for you. I have a Nissan Altima
2003, 190k miles. Recently, the car began to shake at stop signs and
traffic lights, and also when i first start it in the morning. One day the
shaking was really bad and the service engine light began to blink. I read
the code and it was P303. A mechanic checked the 4 spark plugs and all of
them had a orange-red coloration at the tip, as if they where severely
burned in the past. Then he removed the oil cap and saw that it was wet. He
didnt make any tests, just by looking the plugs and the coils he said “They
are fine and working properly, is not a plug or coil issue, is definetely a
more serious issue”. He then said that he needed to remove the top half of
the engine to make some adjustements and it will cost me over $500.

What do you think about it? Whats the reason for all the spark plugs to
have that orange-red discoloration at the tip?

Any help will be apreciated. Thanks in advance!

keepfittildesley says:

hi, i own a passat 115bhp 2,0 petrol. it has a misfire that seems to point
at the injectors because ive done a compression test, injector pulse test,
replaced plug and lead on the culprit cylinder 2. Still misfiring. How
likely is it that there is injector failure although there is a healthy
pulse at the plug from the ECU. Oh and there is a nice blue spark from the
coil pack. pls advice. thanks

tickyul says:

Ignition electronics can be ruined by disconnecting spark plugs while the
vehicle is running. Best to either disable the cylinder by grounding the
spark plug wires or disabling the fuel injectors.

I used to have one of these but a bora! I miss it a lot. I have a Jetta 2.0
TDI now, I have nothing but trouble with it. Nice channel by the way,

lennonpolo says:

I’ve been to VW today and they are not 100% sure but they are pointing
towards the Turbo! I’m from Bethnal Green. You?

shlomiya says:

it’s very dangerous to unplug the spark plug cables while the car is
running… only if you have a long plastic tool + good gloves (not these
nylon gloves!). the voltage is so high that unconductive materials become
conductive . and if you touch it directly it’s a guaranteed death 🙂 unlike
220v from power outlet – this is much worse.

BMAC VAGS says:

The dealer saying it could be a software problem is another way of him
saying he didn’t know but he had to say something. Did you check,
injectors, fuel pressure, fuel contamination, spark plugs, leads etc? When
you say tuned what exactly did you do?

fandin2 says:

wow how simple! i didn’t know how to diagnose an engine misfire! thanks BMAC

BMAC VAGS says:

They were ok, but I changed them anyway
