The mechanic i took mine to, just called and told me that the bolt is stuck
and his air/compressor gun can’t open it. Wants me to try to find a place
where they got better tools. What do i do since the car is parked in his
garage and needs to be towed for another $75 if i have to ship it off to
someone else?
Can I reverse the procedure to tightened the pulley back?
Hey scooty I just finished changing my head gasket but the car now revs
alone pleaz help mee
I am needing to do this on a 99 Ram 1500 5.9. Any concerns about breaking
the bolt from the quick torque of the engine?
Nice, Scotty! I’m a continuing fan, usually fixing vehicles, etc. and
appreciate your info and Style!!!
Thanks!

Scotty I have been fixing cars for a while and I am beginning to think I’m
no good at being a mechanic despite all my efforts. My new boss complains
everyday about my work. I am wondering if it’s because I lack experience or
its possible that I am no good
I’m replacing my cracked cylinder head. The water and oil mixed do you
recommend throwing diesel into cylinder with drain cork off to remove the
contaminated oil or is there another method.
Scotty,
I used your method and it worked great! Keep the great ideas flowing. You
are awesome!!!
How do you torque it up after?
Hey Scotty, will this method work on a 94 Camaro v6 3.4 with the lower and
upper intake manifolds off? I needed to turn the engine but my pulley bolt
is stripping
Crankshaft Pulley Removal Trick, I couldnt help to laugh at this video,
you made it so simple. Thats some good work, Thank you Scotty

your idea of using the motor to loosen the harmonic balancer was excellent
idea for the solution. my hat goes off to you
Thank you saved me so much time and money
Will it work on a 91 civic hatch? The bolt is real tight have already tried
using impact gun and nothing
I am working on a 98 toyota camry. I am changing the oil pump gasket along
with water pump, timing belt and more. I need to get the crank shaft pulley
off as well only I am having trouble because I already disconnected many
wires, drained the coolant and the oil. The Haynes repair manual does offer
an alternate way of getting it off. It states: Remove the
flywheel/driveplate cover and use a prybar wedged against the ring gear
teeth or a converter bolt to hold the crankshaft while loosening the pulley
bolt with a breaker bar. I am having trouble finding
the flywheel/driveplate cover. Can you please point me in the right
direction?
Thanks
Hey scooty, my corsa 1.0 12v 2003 model has failed compression test (40psi)
on the second cylinder. Do you recon its the valve or the head gasket?
(theres no water in the oil or oil in the water, however, the second spark
plug was quite oily when i took it off)
can I use the same strategy to my 1999 BMW 323i ?? my front crankshaft seal
is leaking. please let me know what kind of tool I should use to take out
my crankshaft hub. thank you
Hello sir. If I drive a manual I can just simply unscrew the crankshaft
pulley with a socket wrench as long as i’m in gear right?
This method is possibly dangerous and destructive if not performed
correctly. Just get some large locking chain pliers ($20-$30), pad the
pulley well to keep from damaging the belt grooves and then use some
testicular fortitude.
Hey Scotty, I just want to say thanks. In part to your video I was able to
fix my crank shaft sensor diy style. Three years later and your videos
continue to help others. THANKS AGAIN.
How to replace the belts on my 1998 Pontiac Bonneville ssei
Than once in a while you would run into a car with crank bolt torqued over
300 ft/lb that no impact wrench can remove and starter motor isn’t strong
enough to remove. This is why I usually buy the special tool designed
specifically for the car (usually under $100).
Excellent method. Just did it my self. Thanks.
You have so much energy, dude! Makes me wanna go replace my timing belt
right now!
pure rock’n’roll style !
Whats a reason a crank shaft pully would break?
lol the Parthenon
what causes crankshaft pulley not to go back on?
After watching your video, I’m wondering if the technician at my local
dealership used this method to loosen the bolt on my crank shaft pulley
while performing unrelated repairs and maintenance. 3 weeks ago I had a
new alternator installed and tune up done to my 2008 Ford Explorer. The
vehicle drove like new the first week after I left the lot. Two weeks ago,
I start hearing a squealing noise coming from my car. This past Sunday,
the crank pulley fell from underneath the vehicle while I was driving on a
busy street. When I stopped and lifted the hood, the belt was dangling
loose. What are your thoughts?
Is there something else he could use besides the gun for a stuck bolt?
A friend of mine mentioned this technique to me the other day. I’m pulling
the timing chain cover off my 2002 Mustang GT. I’m a bit scared of doing
this just because I fear the cheater bar slipping or flipping around or
something. Hopefully my impact gun will fit in there. If not, I’ll be
doing this trick.
Thanks for sharing Scotty!
Thank you, it was very helpful
Great tip Scotty ! you helped me finishing the job !
excellent ideas
Hey Scotty, i am having issues with my crankshaft pulley which spins
counterclockwise. I’ve tried an impact wrench, no cigar. Now it makes this
loud grinding noise, my guess from being on so tight.
Scotty,i am replacing my crankshaft pulley.I got if off,do i just put
another one on and tighten it to the correct torque or are there other
things i should look for/do? 96 toyota camry 2.2
This is definitely a good tip, seeing how I just noticed my crankshaft oil
seal leaking and I need to replace it soon.
Just had to remove the crankshaft pulley 2 days ago, did it by hand with a
breaker bar and my elbows are still sore. Changed the Timing belt,
Waterpump, etc in my 6g72…you don’t know hell until you do this job on a
Mitsubishi 6g72. The crank bolt/pulley was one of the easiest parts lol.
can you tell me a trick on how to get the pulley off when the puller tool
is still turning the crankshaft ????
hello i have 2006 monte carlo 5.3 still in car , i have removed the center
nut from the harmonic balancer. the balancer came lose, just hanging there,
is there any kind of tool made to remove this balancer while in the car ,
none of the holes match up due to the frame, i can get to of them there off
set some what . thanks for any help. mike
I did this too when i didn’t have air tools.
Don’t do this when you have an engine with wedge less pulleys. (like some
french crap, i hate those things!)
Just did this on my 2000 Sonata, worked like a champ!
My wife thinks that I am an amazing mechanic, but I owe it to your videos.
Thanks!
Ok so my engine turns the right way for this trick, I’ve used pb blaster,
and I have my cheater bar wedged against the ground. Still my crank bolt
refuses to budge. Any ideas Scotty?
