sunroof repair 2007 Infiniti G35

This shows how I repaired my G35 sunroof after the motor caused it to get off track. Tools needs are a wrench, torx screwdriver and phillips screwdriver. fyi, after I put everything back together I notice the button function didn’t immediately start working. After pressing the button a few times did it start working properly. Might be some type of reset procedure.

Came back to say I ended up stripping one of the torx screws (the last one of course) on the sunroof last year, it's got red loctite on it. I'll have to see if I can drill out the screw and get a replacement one in there.

Thanks for the great video. Fixed a friends car with the same issue. Didn't even have to take much apart since as soon as I took out the lights and switch assembly the screw was right there and just but a little lock tight on it and screwed it back in and all was working again.

Thanks for posting this. The same thing happened to my fx35. Light covers popped right off, there were two loose screws. One on the passenger side was hard to see and I thought it was still broke after tightening the screw and test running. After I found the second screw and tightened it up it ran just like new. Snapped everything back together with no marks or broken parts. Be careful with light covers as they have thin plastic tabs. Both covers have u-shaped snaps on the outside corners and two hooks inside. Mine has left and right sides so don't force the cover if it won't fit.

I had the exact same problem with my 2007 G35 sunroof. It made a grinding noise and then stopped moving. This video helped tremendously and I was able to get it working again without buying a new motor.

Prior to when the video starts, the disassembly of the overhead lights module can be tricky. Make yourself take extra time to avoid breaking things. Since there are no screws holding up the light module, you have to find where the 4 tabs are and gently work it down. Then the light module won't drop far enough down to get good access to the motor because of the wiring harnesses. So next you have to gently pry 4 other tabs on the center trim bezel (that surrounds the sunroof switch) to take it off the light module. Then finally you can unplug the 2 wiring harnesses (for the little blue LEDs) and push the sunroof switch out of its bracket. Finally the light module can swing away from the motor opening. That's what you see at the beginning of the video. You can even see the sunroof button hanging free.

Another point: Access to 1 of the 3 sunroof motor bolts is virtually impossible to reach unless you remove the sunglasses door latch. When the light module is removed you can touch the top of the sunglasses door black plastic latch. Just push firmly down on it with your finger and it will drop out. The hole lines up perfectly with the sunroof motor bolt.

Finally: After everything is done, you probably need to re-calibrate the sunroof. (This is not unlike the Infinity/Nissan method of re-calibrating the window switches). Google it for the procedure. It's officially called the 'Initialization Procedure'. Starting in closed position, it involves pressing and holding the 'tilt up' button for 10 seconds. The sunroof automatically tilts/un-tilts. Release. Repeat. Done. I found it on InfinityFX.org. Good luck!

Had no idea the glass was easy to take off. Guess I'll attempt this again.
