Good for you that you are getting such great MPG. I get 28 city/hwy mix and 31-32 doing 100% hwy… that’s with a drop in K&N, always being light on the gas, and nothing else. California.

bevans228 says:

Gas mileage certainly does not improve if you add more air with a high performance filter…IF you want good gas mileage and you purchase an economy car heres a hint…dont try to improve its performance. Leave it an economy car. What you are doing is counter productive

themilkinator33 says:

I did this a few weeks ago on my car. Gas mileage was not hurt at all may have even helped a bit(Getting between 35 and 38 depending on number of passengers) and it provided a bit more sound. Definitely worth it

Muscle & Motors says:

I’m pretty sure my upper filter housing doesn’t have that extra filter piece. I know what you are talking about but I think it comes only on certain states cars.

heyrob69 says:

by the way, inside the upper cover is another built in filter. if you want a little more horse power and less MPG, cut the filter out and just leave in the drop in KN filter

heyrob69 says:

incase anyone wants to know, the mpg will decrease, whenever you add more air to the engine. HP will increase by only around 2 horse power

Can you post a link to this product

Muscle & Motors says:

I would take a twin turbo 1.4 in this car for sure!

Xyz2394 says:

man performance products on a family car … badass!! whats next supercharged twin turbo’ed 1.4 liter engine family car?

Muscle & Motors says:

That’s pretty much it! I also used the exact same filter on my Hyundai Tucson 🙂 By the way love the name Riku. Means Rick in English right?

K&N 33-2451 High Performance Intake 2010-2011 Tuscon 2.0/2.4 although im guessing.it wouldnt bit it looks the same in this model. Thanks ao much for the help. if thats nkt jt could you show me where you got yours? Much appreciated!

Adam Moon says:

Sorry that didnt finish haba, but it gave me

Adam Moon says:

im recently wanted to install this and i looked on Amazong, and i typed in K&N Air Intake Elantra 2013

Muscle & Motors says:

I believe the filter was around $20. I think that you will get better fuel economy and the performance gains are minimal. Should work fine for your 2012!

Muscle & Motors says:

Hey deffinately! check out my other videos and you can see I actually did my own version of the typhoon intake on the cheap. The coupe models are nice too I have a video of my review and test drive in my channel. Thanks and good luck with yours!

soboboo says:

Search “K&N Typhoon Intake on 2012 Hyundai Elantra GLS “. It’s a nice mod. Sounds more aggressive and I think it may be worth it. Also, did you know that the 2013 Elantra has a coupe model and it has a really nice dual chrome exhaust? Once I get some moolah I plan on modding my car with these 2 upgrades. 🙂

Muscle & Motors says:

Great call, I’ve actually been planning to do this but I’ll make sure to shoot a video to show you all! Have a good one.

Dan Chang says:

no prob. oh and another way to add a few horses to it is this quick tip. on the top part of the box you may see a tube that connects. that blocks out sound from the airbox, but causes less air to be allowed in. if you take that tube out of the top box, (i’m pretty sure it slides right out) it will add another 2-3 horses to the car, but it will be slightly louder, with a bit of a growl when the gas is pushed. if you don’t like it, just put it back on and it will be stock again.

Muscle & Motors says:

Excellent answer! Thanks for your help.

Dan Chang says:

The California version of the elantra has two filters. one main on the bottom and one carcoal filter on the top. the difference is the california one is about 2-3 hp less than the other model. if you remove it, the only difference is that the car will go from a ulev to a pzev.

John Drummond says:

Hey, thanks for your reply. I checked the extra filter today and it appears to be fixed to the cover. I think I might need a flat point screw driver to pluck it out. I recently changed the regular air filter at 20,000 miles.I used genuine replacement and the car runs with more power. However, I agree with you about losing power because of the extra filter. I wanna remove it so badly now. lol

Muscle & Motors says:

Hey that is interesting! Mine did not come with the extra filter in the upper cover but I know that in some states it comes with those to further help with emissions. It’s not a required piece unless your state enforces emissions testing. I think it actually hinders air flow.

John Drummond says:

Hey I noticed that you removed a second filter that is in the air filter cover. I have a 2011 elantra and it has both the main filter and one in the cover. Did you intentional remove it? If yes, why?

Muscle & Motors says:

I’ll consider a cold air intake in the future but honestly I think that with the way that Hyundai has directed the air flow through the front grill and straight into the airbox that it may not be much more beneficial. Sometimes CAI can get heatsoak from other engine components under the hood.

shivam220 says:

get a cai! lol nice car u missin the genesis?

Muscle & Motors says:

Yes they are. Should be out on your lot by now although there really isn’t much noticeably different from the 2012’s.

pilotdapunk says:

are the 2013s out already?
