Great videos. Just completed my 2010 Elantra timing belt (@115k!) and they were very helpful. Here’s my $0.02. 1) Bought the same HF Impact but my CFM was too low & crank bolt would not budge. Found a trick where you wrap the old AC belt around the water pump & crank pulley then feed the slack back in so grabs & holds. Worked! 2) In video 2 at 1min44, loosen the center bolt (red) BEFORE the 12 mm tensioner 3) I put the crank bolt back on with an Elec Impact. 4) I used his index method!!

Bo Zeng says:

Actually I had a question. Do I need to replace the timing belt on a 60,000 mile basis? I think it is ‘normal’ situation but i am not sure what will happen to wait until 90,000 mile? Do I need to inspect the belt first?

I bough a transmission filter from Amazon and from that company: Beck/Arnley and doesn’t even bring their logos, doesn’t say any thing, so I returned; I don’t trust them any more.

ThePariss333 says:

I replace it yesterday at the Dealer $ 371 include tax, only belt and the water pump is cover until 100.000 miles

The car has only 50.000 miles but more than 48 month and 5 years since production. The belt was incredible good but I did not want to risk any thing.

MVBURCH, The car can be lift by the front and then put the two jack stands, very easy, that’s the way I do it . I replace it yesterday at the Dealer $ 371 include tax, only belt and the water pump is cover until 100.000 miles

I just did my timing belt 2 weeks ago one thing im skeptical about is the tensioner. I pulled the pin before i installed it which I dont know if thats bad or not and also when I lined up the arrow and tightened it to 21 ft lbs the instructions say rotate the engine 2 times and check that the arrow is still in the same spot well mine moves slightly but the timing marks on the crank and cam are still good and ive loosened it about 5-6 times and it does the same thing been driving for 2 weeks now??

this looks like a bitch and trying to diy would probably take a day at least

mvburch says:

It is your choice and your gamble on whether or not it will fail before your next belt change. I have received mixed opinions on the idle pulley and tension pulley replacement. If you have $ you should do both. I went with the option of just one of them.

mvburch says:

Log in to the main page and click on the “shop” button below your name. Enter the car information in the drop down menus, then select the sub menus by double clicking on them. I used the following information; ELANTRA(HD) >2008 > G 2.0 DOHC > Engine Mechanical System > Timing System > Timing Belt > Repair procedures.

1imesub says:

Where on the HMASERVICE website did you find the timing belt instructions? I created an account, but can’t find it.

1imesub says:

Is replacing the tensioner really necessary on a car that new?

SilentServiceCode says:

thanks for this video, covers all HD models from 2007-2010

mvburch says:

I did not replace the water pump. Many people suggest that you do replace it while you have the pump exposed, but I decided to take a gamble and let it ride until it breaks on me. “If it is not broken then don’t fix it philosophy”. If you are doing the water pump, you should flush your system and then drain your coolant before installing a new water pump.

good . it beat the flying bling tx…

mvburch says:

This is a detailed step by step video. More advanced shade tree mechanics may find this unnecessary, but I am trying to help the person that is on the fence about forking out the 300+ dollars for this repair.
