Unclog Sunroof Drains with Weedwacker Line. #diy

Find the drain holes. Usually at the front two corners inside the track opening. Feed several feet of line into them. Check if they are clear with some water and you’re done. Literally five minutes. If you have shop air, blow it in the hole. Even faster.

Should it end up all the way thru to the bottom vs stopping at a certain point? Mine went pretty far down before stopping

I let this go so long now im having all sorts of electrical issues in my 2011 Taurus. I am gonna look for that damned hole AGAIN but last several attempts I couldn’t find them. But thx for the weed wacker line idea

This worked like a charm on a 2017 Ford Flex. It took some searching to actually find the drain hole but I didn’t give up. I kept poking the weed wacker string around where I couldn’t see and found it. Then I slowly started pushing the string in and poured in a 1/2 cup of water. The water disappeared down the drain. Yay! Thank you for sharing this tip and saving us a lot of money.

Thanks for the tip! I used my trimmer line and it worked well! I would suggest pulling off the A-pillar trim to inspect the tube to make sure the tube is in good condition, not disconnected, and not dry rotted and cracked.

@michaelbassett546 says:

As soon as you see water on your carpet, spray lysol on it and put a heavy towel on it. Let it absorb as much water as it can. Then spray some more till you find the leak. No mildew build up.

This should be done twice or twice a year in the area which is dusty or before the rainy season comes. Not after plugging in of the drainage tube.

Trimmer line isn’t rigid enough to unclog mine. It only goes about 6 inches in. Any other suggestions of a more rigid material to use?
