John Kirby is WRONG. The screws have nothing to do with rattling down the
road as he says, If his theory is right, all cars without screws would
rattle. Plus when you tighten 4 or 5 lug nuts, trust me, that rotor is
tight as hell. Go back to automotive 101. great video BTW, who makes your
hand impact TOOL, has a large base.

vettepwr23 says:

Here is something to ponder… American car makers do not use those screws to
hold the rotors on. These screws are there to aid in assembly of the
vehicle when it is built. The wheel and its lug nuts hold the wheel and
rotor on to the vehicle therefore it will not rattle. If your wheel lugs
are loose and your wheel comes off, you are going to have a lot more to
worry about then whether or not the rotor is actually still on the car.

Ian Laurie says:

NEVER EVER EVER USE a hammer to hit another hammer. the hammer can shatter
and i dont think its fun pulling metal out of your skin. also i reccomend
keeping the screws in good condition to reuse because if something happens
to your car and you take it to a dealership that just gives them something
to bitch about.

ndyt says:

The screws line up the rotors.

HEU ERIC, I HAVE A 98 CIVIC , MY FRONT RIGHT HAND SIDE WHEEL STUDS ARE
MESSED UP, I NEED TO CHANGE IT, IS TEHRE A STEP BY STEP INTRUCTIONS ON HOW
TO CHANGE THEM ,WITHOUT REMOVING THE BEARINGS OR CHANGING THE WHOLE THING,
DO I REALLY JUST NEED TO GRIND THE LOGNUT FOR IT TO FIT ?

brightonideas says:

2 Acura dealers could not tell me the size or pitch of the screws used to
back the rotor off of the hub. Thank you for pointing that out in your vid.

2007- 2011 MDX the Break Pad part number is not the same the passport. it
the same way to do it?

tsx3214 says:

Very helpful…..the two BALL PEEN HAMMERS did the trick…two whacks, then
a reg Phillips. THX

goku28 says:

I’ve been hammering it with the impact hammer for 30min and the damn screw
still won’t come out. Why did Honda make such a stupid design. I’m not
putting the damn screws back on when I put in the new rotors. Are these 2
screws neccessary?

MarioLoco03 says:

is this the same for the rear brakes…also they may sound retarded but i
honestly dont know. Are the back brakes used when stopping or is it just
for the e-brake?? Im wondering how my rear rotors are worn faster than the
front ones. Never had that problem before

myangelsjns says:

Ran out of room on last comment. I’ve always done this and never gave me a
problem, also prevents aggravation when need to do it again.

MarioLoco03 says:

@blazeb2002 lol

nukem384 says:

lol, the car was on jack stands. i just put the cement block there to rest
the brake caliper on.

axesbowledaslove says:

Thanks for the great video! Gotta change the pads out on my wife’s
Ridgeline this afternoon so I need to study up on Hondas. Haven’t worked on
them too much as every one I ever owned never needed anything but the oil
and filters changed.

DeWina512 says:

Do it work on a 1992 Honda Civic EG8? And what a legend the guy is. My dad
& I try to figure out how to remove the rotor.

Lorenzo Parra says:

Thank you!! I actually removed the Axle Nut…thinking that this was
holding the rotor on! Damn, shoulda watched your video first! (Guess that
is what my wife gets for marrying a contractor instead of a grease monkey!)

Jake Stinebaugh says:

@MarioLoco03 I have the same issue with my 2006 Accord V6. Its a manual, so
I do downshift for slowing down, but I still can’t see how my back breaks
have worn down so much more compared to my front brakes. Is your car a
manual too?

Joel Moye says:

Great job showing how to get the rotors off! Mine were stuck on and the
trick of using the mounting bolts to help force them off was a great idea!
Thanks for putting this together for us S2K guys…

Leonel Delgadillo says:

Nice video, i use a solder torch on the screw and heat it up then wd4 then
couple of good hit and it came out very easy. thank u for the video

SonyAlphaLab says:

Great video, Thank you for sharing the tricks for those screws!

Ramnik Bains says:

I have a question, when you install new rotars do you have to use the
screws or can you install them without screws?

Roman Dybala says:

Uninstall????? do you mean remove?

nakeder69 says:

Nice video, Nukem. I have replace my front pads and rotors and now my
brakes are draging on both sides (and getting very very hot). Any ideas?
Calipers? Master Cylinder? Too much fluid in the system?

maciekskontakt says:

Oh…oh and by the way if wacking does not help i think that mild fire from
torch (like butane one). Might help with loosening rust as well… just
like on exhaust pipe bolts it does.

hawk bot says:

If you’re going to whack a hammer with another hammer, don’t forget your
safety glasses. Unless you are really eager to get a piece of hammer face
material right in your eyes. Hitting hardened steel with more hardened
steel is a really bad idea. Impact drivers are first turned in the desired
direction of rotation to load the mechanism, then struck sharply with a
ball peen hammer. Hitting a plastic screwdriver handle with a hammer is
just asking for it to mar the handle and slide off the end.

Follower says:

Worked on one screw, had to drill the other one out. After looking at some
of the comments, I didn’t replace the *&*# screws. I’ve broken two socket
wrenches taking apart the assembly and the rotors on the back end of my
Odyssey. Eight freaking hours to unscrew 20 bolts and 4 screws! I love
Honda and have owned their vehicles for 20 years, but the brakes have
always been a pain in the rear with every one of their vehicles. They also
need to move their oil filters lower like Toyota does.

Rama Kambhampati says:

fantastic video. Thanks

MrDtrb says:

Thanks for this video! Is this the same procedure for a 2003 Accord?
