lovely narration, great voice you have

dff090 says:

Good stuff Eric, just did Saturn Vue of my daughters and bought the HF
$69.00 coil spring compresser after I saw your vid, you need one buddy.
Keep those vids coming. Hammer Dave Canuck

Shramir says:

Those spring compressors you’re using are scaring the shit out of me
D=

Blake Loscheider says:

what if lower bolt does not come out of the lower part of the wishbone?
could use some help.

kenni411 says:

i bought mine at harbor freight works ok … love your videos eric !
thanks!

Filip Malinovski says:

are there left/right top mounting ?

Matt Skea says:

You are the best man.

John Klatt says:

Just picked up a 90 honda wagon. This video gave me a good idea of what’s
in store for me. Thanks again Eric, you are a youtube treasure.

Jack Flynn says:

Lubing the strut mount seems like a good idea for ease of use, but another
idea would be to mark the strut and placement spot with a sharpee on the
visual part so you can just align and be good to go, right?

b says:

how safe are those spring compressors you can get on Amazon or HF?

Romil Saleh says:

hi man is nesscery make aligment in the car after replace struts thanks

jockellis says:

My strut compressor won’t let the insert go in. Are there special tools
made for the skinny Honda springs?

Salvador Mejia says:

I have a quick Question: i have replace my spring and strut, the original
has eight rings and the one i have replaced has nine and my right side tire
it’s a bit camber out

Rick Whitham says:

Very Informative, Thanks for stressing the springs potentials. My buddy has
a steel plate in his head from a sprung spring from a strut assembly. Eric
is correct… it’s dangerous…..

D Weaver says:

Thanks for this video. My 2004 Honda Accord LX has 75,000 miles on it. Do
you recommend replacing the shock/strut now. This vehicle has been driving
very carefully and it drives like a dream. How can I tell if it really
does need to have the struts replaced? I had my tires rotated and was told
that I should consider replacing the struts. What do you recommend?

Luis Navarro says:

very helpful, thanks Eric! :)

someusername121 says:

8:05…really…that’s how you’re going to tighten something down that only
needs to go 5 threads?

richard travis says:

Hi Eric, I’m in the UK,and iv just bought a 1995 honda odessy people
carrier, I’m trying to lower the suspension all round so it makes easier
assess for me to get in the seat as I’m disabled,I can’t find any lowered
suspension over here. I was wondering if you knew if and other model honda
suspension would cross over fit for this model ?. Many thanks . Richard
Travis…

robinater says:

Ive got a very squeaky grindy sound when I turn the steering wheel coming
from the front right under the tire and the steering fluid is coming back
up from the top rubber cap like its clogged any suggestions ? Its a 93
Honda Accord BTW..

Eric Metz says:

This job, on this car, definitely does not “require” an alignment when
complete.. Worst case, if the ride height has changed with the new struts,
your alignment could change slightly too. But only toe is adjustable, so if
the car isn’t pulling, save the alignment for when you get new tires.

MR GIPSON says:

how do you get the bolt out of the wish bone it is like it is welded in

Marty Summers says:

I had my struts replaced on my 2007 Honda Accord and now it rides rough.
Is there a reason for that? Can they be adjusted for a smoother ride?

Iti Gilbert says:

what a awesome video I always learn something new from you

Andrew Gibbs says:

Does the alignment need to be re-adjusted after replacing the struts and
springs? I want to upgrade my ’06 EX…

harry w says:

dear eric, some tie rips around both compressors will keep you a bit saver.
we like your vids, with all of your teeth..

jisozaki says:

Nice video. I particularly like that you did a voice over cuz other videos
are hard to follow due to all the background noise and ad-lib instructions.

GETINTHECARITSALION says:

Good video, but there were some things you did seriously wrong if you want
to be safe.
First, When you put the spring compressors on, make sure they’re completely
vertical before you start tightening and when you do start tightening, make
sure they don’t start cocking/leaning over too much. The steeper the angle
the compressor is at, the less of the force is directed down and the more
is directed towards the side, which causes bowing which is extremely
dangerous as you can see in this video. This is extremely elementary
physics/logic, and why nobody seems to realize this is beyond me. Use the
locking pins that COME WITH these strut compressors. Theres a reason they
come with; they prevent the compressors from sliding.

Second, stop using an impact on everything, especially in this case. It may
be faster, but the hammering action will cause the metal clamps on the
spring compressor to jolt, jump, and, as a result, slide on the metal
surface of the spring. This will ruin the paint on the spring and also
cause the spring compressors to cock to one side causing the dangerous
situation above. You also have very little start/stop control with an
impact. You will be likely to tighten/loosen one side of compressors too
far causing the spring to bow out (Just like this strut was before it
“exploded”. If Eric was paying attention, he should have noticed this,
re-tightened the one side and loosened the other side so both compressors
were applying equal pressure on the spring) The hammering of an impact will
also likely cause the nuts on these cheap spring compressors to eventually
break off, leading to an extremely dangerous situation. Use a hand tool for
this. Seriously. Take your time and tighten each side evenly (three turns a
side with a socket wrench is what I usually do) “What good has impatience
ever brought? It has only served as the mother of mistakes and the father
of irritation.” – Steve Mariboli

Third, when he does attach the strut to the arm, as he said, the car really
should be on the ground. I have no idea why he didn’t spend the minute to
do that. These arms move along an arc, not directly up and down. When you
put the car down, the suspension obviously compresses and this arm moves.
If you look at the place on the arm where you put the screw through, you’ll
see that there is some rubber suspending the slot. This rubber is only
supposed to twist when you go over a bump/the suspension is moving. If you
tighten the screw to specs when its in the air, the rubber around this
mounting point will twist when you bring the car down…and will be twisted
ALL THE TIME at rest. If you leave it this way, after miles and miles of
driving, this rubber will likely be overly stressed and break, causing
suspension problems/a noisy suspension in the future.

Please stay safe and give this a thumbs up to inform others before anyone
gets hurt!

harry w says:

hmm i would like to see an airgun with that spring in it..

Dave denton says:

Good lesson Eric, especially when you showed how the danger occurs.
Is it necessary to get a wheel alignment once you change your struts?

Jose J Salas says:

Thanx great video erick, you rock bro.

jose basilio says:

is same as a acura integra 96?

Kerry Flynn says:

Thank you this was a really good video!

Len Fletcher says:

Is it the same process when installing lowering springs. I ask cause the
new springs are smaller then the stock springs

soup1223 says:

an easier way is to get a hacksaw and start cutting the strut in the centre
of the spring, you dont have to waste your money on clamps

Claude Rains says:

Coil over shocks and struts are dangerous stuff to play with. I always get
a cable or chain on them so they don’t break my hand or worse give you a
new set of teeth!

UncleMoishe says:

Excellent video..SOund quality is great…Thanks

Sparkgapone says:

Eric , When replacing struts do you need to do any type of wheel
realignment. Thanks

tinabong says:

ETCG, i’m thinking of getting three spring compressors coz the size might
be a little bigger. let me know what you think…-Michael

joel graves says:

great video, your right those springs can be very dangerous

Alan McRae says:

Eric, Awesome as usual. The only thing I can add is that many of the strut
compressors, like the one you used also come with a little set of hooks
that wraps around the top of the compressor and keep it from being able to
slip off the way yours did. Thanks again!

dxc123blabla says:

hey eric, i have a 2nd gen integra DA… it is lowered on coilovers. when i
am driving and hit a bump my front passenger side clunks… like its
bottoming out… is that a bad strut?

Darron C says:

Eric if you really want a nightmare please show us a video of replacing the
rear struts and springs on 1999 MB Ml320….good luck!!!

Joshua Figueroa says:

i wouldn’t be suprised if that was in the news

Alan McRae says:

Eric, you should allow my VIDEO as a video response to your dangerous
procedure. The safety brackets are only a few dollars and they can save
people’s LIVES!!!! Anyone doing this procedure should search for my youtube
video under “safety bracket for spring compressors”.

mixmaxdix says:

hello eric, can you tell me please wich in these images are the front
springs? they are to be installed in a honda ek ://img195. imageshack. us
/img195/8825/dsci0001zsx.jpg Thank you !

ELCALIN1 says:

Do you think using three tensioners will make it safer?

40mmrrsmith says:

Eric The Car Guy is a pro and knows what he’s doing. To the DIYSers don’t
ever use that type spring compressor on struts with a strong spring (most
of them). i would only use those type if I had no other way out.I put a
cable clamp (looks like a small muffler clamp) on the down side to prevent
slipping. To tighten bushings place a jack stand safely under the control
arm. Lower vehicle just untill ths suspension components are in alignment
then tighten. I had a flashback when that thing flew.

tbs941 says:

hey i have a 2007 tsx and they said i have a blown strut whats the ome part
to replace it with kyb ? or what and i should only replace that one or
replace with used good ones , thanks
