How To Replace Front/Upstream O2 Sensor On Honda Civic

I was getting a check engine light and the code turned out to be p0135 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1). Since it’s a 4 cylinder, there…

can it be repaired?

strocat25 says:

did you have a small crack above your O2 sensor insert hole??? our civics
are notorious for those and mine has a hairline crack :(

tomorrow with Quick Monroe. 189,000 same struts ! He said 2002 civic better

I think it’s a matter of common sense that if you disconnects a connector
to remove a part, then you have to reconnect the new part to the connector.
. Now if your new part has the same type plug than its common sense to
connet that plug to the new connector. If no plug , then you have to cut
and splice the wires.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks for your video. I had to replace my O2 sensor on my 97 Civic and
wasn’t sure where to start. Dead simple! Didn’t realize it would be so
easy. Noticed my exhaust manifold is seriously cracked so that will be my
next project.

shyflirt1 says:

Yes, it is.

taconight2night says:

Thanks for the vid, big help! Do you have to get the CE light reset by a
mechanic, or will it go off automatically?

Rama Kambhampati says:

Fantastic.I saved and learned a lot.Thank you so much sir.

b00045394 says:

thanks for your quick response…( the “check engine yellow light” will go
off itself once the oxigen sensor has been replaced?or it needs “clear
errors” ). I just find out i need oxigen sensor bank 1

shyflirt1 says:

I didn’t, but you can. It is not a bad idea though. If you leave it
disconnected while you do the work, it will probably reset the ECU and the
engine will adapt itself to the new O2 Sensor quicker.

ssjLancer says:

Arent there supposed to be wires you have to connect?

shyflirt1 says:

Yes. I bought it at the local autoparts store. I think Sears also sells
one. They make another style that looks more like a regular deep socket
with a slot up the side for the wire.

Matt Friedrick says:

Thanks so much! This video saved me a lot of time and money. My change was
a bit different, since I have a 2004 Civic. The heat shield on mine had
three bolts, two of which were at the top and bolted horizontally, and the
other on the very bottom. On the ’04, the O2 sensor is under the heat
shield. A 12 mm hex bit is what you need for the bolts, and you should
borrow an O2 sensor bit from Autozone and find a ratchet extender to make
removal easier since it’s below the heat shield.

shyflirt1 says:

It’s just a plug. You can kind of see me unplug it at 1:35-1:50.

PCollen YT says:

Can’t you just use a closed or box-end wrench to loosen that sensor. Why
the special “fixture”…?

b00045394 says:

Hi..Is it the same position for Honda Civic ES9 (Ferio) Japanese import
(hybrid) 2004 automatic…?

Pheast says:

is that the only o2 sensor? my civic is shooting off emissions like crazy
and wouldn’t pass emissions test. how do i know which o2 sensor is broken?

Seong Chi says:

thanks for the video! have you replaced the middle O2 sensor (after the
cat)?

K McCoy says:

Holy shit ! …. He is so good that you don’t even see him plug it into the
connector – he just has to “Start the car up & give it a shot”. Get in
touch with your continuity editor.

shyflirt1 says:

The catalytic converter. I never tried it, but there is some stuff that
supposedly can clean the catalytic converter. Like Cataclean, but there are
other brands. You might try one of these. Cheaper than a new catalytic
converter.
