How To: Install a Cabin Air Filter on a 2016-2020 Honda Civic

Your Honda Civic’s cabin air filter helps trap and eliminate dust, dirt, and contaminants from the outside air before entering your car’s cabin, ensuring your heating and A/C system has a clean supply of air. Changing your 2016 to 2019 Honda Civic’s cabin air filter can also help reduce allergens and dust in the cabin, and is a simple repair that can improve air quality and flow. It’s recommended that you change your 2016 to 2019 Honda Civic’s cabin air filter every 15,000 to 20,000 miles, but your car’s service manual will detail the manufacturer’s maintenance intervals. A clogged cabin air filter can cause odors from the vents or problems with your Honda Civic’s air conditioning. Our detailed step-by-step instructions will help you perform a cabin air filter replacement on your 2016 to 2019 Honda Civic to help keep you and your passengers breathing easy.

These step-by-step instructions and video detail how to replace the cabin air filter in your 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 Honda Civic. The replacement procedures will be similar for select Honda CR-V and CR-Z models between 2011 and 2019, as well as select 2018 and 2019 Honda Odyssey models. Replacing the cabin air filter removes contaminants from the outside air before it enters your Honda’s cabin, and can improve your car’s air flow and A/C performance. Your 2016 to 2019 Honda Civic’s owner’s manual will detail the replacement intervals, but if you notice a dirty or clogged cabin air filter, you can replace the cabin air filter more often to ensure optimum performance and cabin air flow.

Open your glove box… and take out any items inside.
Once it’s empty, press in on either side to release the tabs holding it up… and lower it completely.
Locate the cabin air filter cover… and release the clips on either side so that it can be removed.
Slide the old filter out… making sure to take note of the direction of the airflow.
Install the new filter with the same airflow orientation.
Reattach the cover by pressing on each side till the clips snap into place.
Raise the glove box… and press in on either side so the tabs can secure it in its original position.
Don’t forget to replace any of the items you took out.
Close the glove box.

Awesome, I never knew I had one in my civic. Thanks for the video! How often should the cabin air filter be changed?

OXPAHNA KOMPROMAT KOHTPOL says:

The best tip of the entire video was to put the stuff back in the glove box after changing the filter. I was confused and kept stepping on my manual and other odds and ends, but watched the video again and figured it out.
