thanks, a lady who’s grass I cut gave me a fairly new condition (not sure
how old it is), rarely used craftsman mower rear drive self propelled with
a 5.5hp Honda engine that has been sitting many years, got it to run and
then it just died and wont restart. gonna give this a try. it did leak gas
like a sieve when I first turned the gas on.

doublewide6 says:

Thanks Wayne, I’m happy you got that mower running properly. Doublewide6

Igor Petrovich says:

Do you have video replacing Crankshaft on honda ? and setting timing?

doublewide6 says:

I’m happy I could help out. How is the weather in Norway? Please subscribe.
Thanks Doublewide6

Wayne Alty says:

I can’t tell you how useful this was to me. I took the carb to pieces
before seeing this and the engine wouldn’t fire. Found this and now all is
sweet after following your instructions. If I hadn’t have had this to
consult and fix it I doubt it would have cost me less than $150 at the shop
at $100 per hour, even though it takes well less than an hour they would
have upsold it for sure. Thanks so much.

doublewide6 says:

I’m guessing it is running well now? That’s great if it is. You just saved
yourself $60.

hardcoremofo says:

Seem like this is the default tutorial for all starting problems. When is
the mower truly done other than the shaft being bent? And how will I know?
(no oil?)

Daniel Meier says:

Thank you for your tutorial. I was having a hard time finding the
carburetor on my Honda engine. Everything came apart and was put back
together without a hitch and I was able to get our yard looking fantastic
again, much to my wife’s pleasure.

Glenn S says:

yes sir, she runs like a champ. Thanks again

Sam Simakis says:

Nice job. Simple to follow. My compliments!

doublewide6 says:

If you think the problem is the carb you can buy a new one at boatsdotnet
online for about $25 delivered. I really do not like the honda auto choke
engine a very finiky engine. Surging could be the carb, black smoke could
be a piston ring problem, but I’m not sure.

Tore Berger says:

Thanks from Norway:) Super help for me. Tore Berger

This video got my hrx217tda to start but that thing revs up and down. If I
set the idle knob to low the turtle mode, it just turns off. If I leave it
on rabbit (fast), it revs up and down but not as bad. What can be the
problem here.?

Sol Kingman says:

I posted a video titled “Need help reassemby of Craftsman lawnmower with
Honda GCV engine” Im thinking maybe the metal lever needs to be positioned
so its to the right/forward of the black plastic piece that controls the
carb valve/choke instead of leaving it all the way to the back.My wife just
told me she thinks the choke releases itself so that might be part of what
had me confused, I was looking for the lever to move it open and closed,
but theres a mechanism that makes it close on its own.

killemall07 says:

This was a huge help man! Messed with mine all day and couldn’t get it
going. Afraid to completely disassemble the carb, but now I will definitely
tackle this tomorrow!

Sol Kingman says:

This was great. I cleaned out my carb. However, I seem to have messed up
the choke. I have this same model, theres a metal paddle/strip that pivots
with the choke lever. There is also a plastic barel that is attached to the
choke lever. It seems like these two parts are out of place in relation
with each other, but I cant figure out exactly how. Does anyone have a
video or comment on what I might be doing wrong?

doublewide6 says:

If the engine is starving for fuel then quits it is most likely a
carburetor issue. Check out my other videos on how to clean lawnmower
carburetors. You may have to remove the bowl and clean the main jet. If it
is not starving from lack of fuel the problem could be related to an
electrical safety switch (blade engaged switch) that is grounding out the
engine.

Thanks to you this 65-year-old dog learned a new trick. Mower wouldn’t
start, or would start and run a couple of seconds. Per your instructions, I
removed, cleaned and reinstalled the carburetor in my 23-year-old HR215. It
is running fine. Thanks for your informative video.

PSINsux says:

Thanks you so much man! Thought I was completely screwed. I’ve never fixed
anything wrong with a motor in my life till today. Seriously, I owe you a
beer man.

doublewide6 says:

The cleaner is from harbor freight tools. I know that they make the same
cleaner under different names and it costs more. I paid about $60 for it.
It works well with jewelry and cleaning cds and dvds.

Timothy Fay says:

I have a problem that i dont know where the spring in the lower right
corner attaches to. ( sorry about the earlier message i hit the enter
button by accident)

wjs1820 says:

How did you adjust the carb when you were done? I have the same mower but
it surges and quits once the choke opens. It’ll run with the choke held 1/2
way. I’m gonna take it apart and clean it out.

Gary Ray says:

Great video…will now attempt to fix my Craftsman GVC 160 Honda and tell
you how it went…was cycling up and down in speed and then just quit so I
assume it is the carb…the air filter was very dirty as well…

Lawn boy says:

Thanks a lot for posting this very helpful video! I’ve had to remove the
carb to check it out, but while I was removing it, all the gaskets fell
off, so I wasn’t sure how to put them back on. This video helped me out a
lot with that. The only issue is that my heat plate is in paper! I do hope
I have the correct order of the gaskets. I don’t want to damage my mower

doublewide6 says:

That choke does close on its own. There is a plastic peg sticking up on the
carb that fits inside the plastic choke mechanism. The carb is going to
have to be attached for everything to move properly. Let me know how you
make out

tigertruckerman says:

coolm man love sonic cleaner ,what make is it,looks like the muts nuts, what
type of other things have you cleaned with it ,good results?

Ron Free says:

I have a Honda engine very similar to this one that I also cleaned the carb
and is not running right. It seems to be running rich: uses twice as much
gas and erratically surges with occasional puffs of black smoke. The new
spark plug also blackens quickly. When I cleaned the carb I tried not to
change any adjustable controls. Could it be I didn’t get something returned
correctly? It is an automatic return choke with fixed throttle.

Wendy Grubb says:

Great Video! I followed everything you did but am stuck when it comes to
reattaching the carb. I have a metal piece that extends out and see it in
your video but am unable to see how you reinstalled everything b/c it skips
to the attachment of the air filter. So, I’m uncertain how/where that piece
fits and am wondering if that’s why the mower still isn’t working. Any
assistance you could provide would be great!

psswett says:

do you know the answer to why my Honda ht-3818 engine quits when the blades
are engaged? It runs fine without the blades but as soon as they are
engaged it quits. Sherry

Tony Camacho says:

Hello, Can you help me. My honda mower starts but it’s popping through the
carb after a few minutes of running.
