Rather than try to turn with a flathead, I found it a lot easier to use
needle nose pliers that were partially open to act as a flat head
screwdriver.
the circular tab I am talking about is on the inside pad, the one with the
wear indicator. I would take out the pad and see if it wore evenly and
realign the piston when you put it back on.
barakatmo when you twist in the piston you accidentally forgot to allign
the + marking. it’s supposed to be perpendiculer (i think thats what it’s
called, or 90 degrees) to the caliper. reason being there may be a notch on
the brake pads and if you do not do that the notch will offset the pads and
they will not touch the rotor evenly which will fuck up your whole brake
job.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! MY NEPHEW AND I THOUGHT WE KNEW WHAT WE WERE
DOING…CHANGED FRONT PADS WITH NO TROUBLE, BUT, MAN, TRY AS WE MIGHT WE
COULD NOT SQUEEZE THAT REAR CYLINDER IN. FINALLY WE GAVE UP AND PUT IT ALL
BACK TOGETHER. THEN I GOOGLED YOU, AND IMMEDIATELY YOU SHOWED THE CROW BAR
SCREW-IN TRICK. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Question for you: how come you didn’t use brake grease on those pads? is
that something you only use on front brake pads, or do you not use it in
either place?
@nervousordo well no need to delete the video after your comment, im sure
everyone will see your comment while watching it… as always thanks for
the tips 🙂
Don’t forget to loosen or remove the master cylinder cap before compressing
the caliper piston and snapping the cap back in place when you are done.
Shouldn’t need additional fluid in most cases. Honda Accord brake calipers
and piston assemblies are made in Findlay, Ohio and very good quality.
Wait. So you said spray the clips with WD-40? Isn’t that flammable? Doesn’t
the friction between the pads and the rotor create heat? Does that not
sound like a dangerous combo?
This would also apply to European Accord CE8 models with discs on the
rear… And Rover 600 series of same year… With the exception of the
caliper sliders being attached by 12mm bolts and not 14mm as it is here.
Not talking shit but next time you do your break’s alway put the slot’s of
the piston thats on the rear caliper straight across meaning 3 to 9 oclock
if that make’s sence. If not your rear pad that comes in contact with the
piston will get uneven wear, an wear your break’s out real fast. Also your
rotor will be uneven an need to be resurface. Just a head’s up lol.
Thanks! First time i do it on a honda always owned GM cars. I knew once i
saw the piston that it was screw in type. Great tip, crow bar works great
for that!
The auto repair place was closed and I needed my back brakes done. You help
me turn a $150 job with a 3 hour wait (with buying parts) into a $10, 1.5
hour job doing it myself. Using the brake replacement program from AutoZone
my parts were free. I just needed to buy the tool to turn the pistons. I
forgot how fun it was to work on cars. Thanks for reminding me.
Hi. Thanks for that video.
Is it the same method for a 2.0L 2000 Honda Accord ? I guess it is. Anyway
I’ll see if there is a cross on the piston.
I can’t get that to turn what can I do
thanks for the video…i was pushing down pretty hard on the c-clamp prior
to watching this video.
great video. Thanks
Thanks! I just used the video to replace my brake pads. The hardest part
for my car was rotating the cross after the pads.
You saved my life dude
And I tried to push it in yesterday and couldn’t figure out why. Totally
forgot it turns.
Rather than try to turn with a flathead, I found it a lot easier to use

I am so grateful to you – I was getting more and more frustrated trying to
force back the calipers straight. Thank you very much.
Damn, I wish the piston had wound in that easy on mine!! lol Nice video
tho, good work mate. 🙂
not in the front. im not sure but i dont think so
Sorry to hear that man. hang in there…
Thanks, big help on my new car.

@enice617 noooo you dont spray the pads at all lol…. what you saw is
probably about the cover of the break pads with engine cleaner the cover
Would it be the same on a 03 accord because I need to lol

Thanx a million, for the turning and not pressing part!!!
Great Job!
@luchis117 glad to help 🙂

@jjunit207 yep its that simple lol
@paatricko any time 🙂
Man if i would never watch this video i never wouldnt done man i apresiate
thanks man
@Minu2s it should be the same…
Hey, I was stumped on the caliper piston part since some cars you have to
push them back. But thanks! This helped a lot ^.^
did you have to bleed the brakes after you changed the pads?

no i don’t think so for 03, for 07 mine were diff.
Thanks for the video.

Great Jobs. Thanks for taking the time to show it.
im glad you mentioned that because when my friend did it, we had no idea to
what to reference it to. Thanks for the info.
