In this video I have a look at a customers Honda Passport with the big 3.2 that has the check engine light on with a P0502 active in it. This indicates that the PCM is not seeing any speed signal however the speedometer works just fine. Let’s see what the problem is.
-Enjoy!

Hi ERIC,another good teaching video. The main thingy i got was LOOK at a wiring DIAGRAM.Learn how to read it.Use it like a road map,and start from the sensor out to the ECM.The 1st thing you did was check at the sending unit it was good, the you went after the wires, the cheapo scan thingy worked good enough to give you readings,no need for the big guns. Most of us only have the cheap tools. What you showed us is we can do it without the need for expensive tools sometimes,so thank you,
The old Honda Passports are just rebadged Isuzu Rodeos. Not sure about the current Passport.
Why in the hell would south main auto NOT be the first stop. maybe a little diy, but come on…
It's not only the cars that have been to another shop, but also the gems that someone bought at the auction, that make their way into the SMA shop. And it's pretty impressive that this 2002 Isuzu/Honda is still around in Avoca, Salty Roads County, NY. I did a Wikipedia lookup of this model, and it mentioned that almost 150K of this generation were recalled because of excessive corrosion near the forward bracket for the left or right rear suspension lower link. And if this one needed a wiring harness, I'm thinking WIlbert's of Bath might have come up empty (unlike with 10-year-old GM pickups).
Just curious…would it be good to seal up the little holes in the wire insulation with Liquid Tape?
i always appreciate your camerawork, trying to give us the best view
The last resort is the best.
Eric, wear eye protection if you are blowing that out.
If Eric O doesn't know, then there's nowhere to go
Can someone tell me where to get that small oscilloscope from looks really handy
It’s the Isuzu! It’s the Rodeo! It’s got the big 3.2!
You’re an amazing diagnostician
Where did you learn the phrase Mickie Mouse?
DeoxIT D5 is great stuff for contacts! I HATE IT when people use WD-40…not smart!!
No way finding a shop that would even try that were I live.
Not related, but replaced struts on a spare Subaru and took it in for a wheel alingment and loaned it to a freind while his car was down. After 3 weeks he took it to a small shop where he lives to find out that the wheels were badly out of balance.
Why would the alinment shop not check that.
No pre drive or post drive,. Just a bill. Fail.
All that for a seed in a connector somebody else opened up. Wow. But once again, Mr. O., YOU are the Man.
Excellent. I wouldn’t consider you the last shop the car comes to, but the first shop who correctly diagnosed the problem.
Brother you have the one quality that is absolutely necessary when diagnosing electrical issues. The patience of a saint. Your ability to explain your thought process is just phenominal. I'm not trying to blow smoke up your behind, I really am impressed, and very few people impress me. Kudos.
The day of simple car repairs is long gone. Once vehicles got away from carburetors and the word electronic became associated with the operation repair trouble shooting takes a different skill set. Simple "green crusties" is the bane of many repairs. Overall, today's complex vehicle is more reliable only that when a problem arises it is more complicated/challenging to fix. A dedicated mechanic like Eric is a valuable asset in the field.
Working on my exhaust system on my 88 MR2 and feeling frustrated, until listening to Eric O new video. Now the o2 sensor bolts come loose.
Dr. Eric O saved another one. I knew you could fix it. Never a doubt.
what was the spray you used as a contact ceaner? was it something named DX E5 ot the like?
Good, fast or cheap. Usually ya can opt for two of. EO ya bring all the trio.
That's a cute little meter. And its orange…
Keep to your guns son you doing good and having fun❤
