I had a shuddering coming from my mower's wheels and transmission when the drive was engaged and I figured the belt was just old and needed to be replaced. Turns out the sleeve and dust cap on the rear axle had come out of place and the axle was moving around. Moved it back in place and everything normal.

Hi. My propeller isn't working, when I lift it on the 2 front wheels the left back wheel moves a little bit when I hold the bar down but soon as i put it back on ground it stops but doesn't pull. Any suggestions? The thin bar that runs along the back wheels is that meant to turn as the mower drives?

Bought my mower at Honda Home Depot. The belt guard by the trans was built onto it. Had to pry it up to get the old belt off and the new one one.

If it ever goes bad again…I'm buying a new damn mower.

My HRR216K9VKAA did not have the 2 belt guard bolts at the trans.Everything was EZ until that point.Had to take it to a repair shop.

For anyone that has a mulcher, you have to remove this to get the shroud off. The shroud has a Spindle which is part of the shroud. It goes up through the hole in the frame, on to which the mulcher mechanism sits. Two bolts, and one screw need to be removed to remove the cover. Both bolts have loose nuts, and one is longer than the other. Take care when removing the shroud because I suspect that the spindle will not take kindly to being caught on the metal frame when taken out.

Hi, I have a Honda HRR216VKUA lawn mower,and while I can easily remove the Engine belt guard, I can see no way of removing the Transmission belt guard. There is one central bolt, but when I try to remove it with a scanner, the whole wheel rotates on its spindle so I cannot get a purchase on the bolt. I tried taking the front plate covering the transmission, thinking I had to go in through the back, but it let the oil out so I stopped. Two q.s Do I have to continue taking off the front plate, letting the oil out to change the belt drive, and if not how should I proceed, and 2. Now some if not all of the oil has leaked out, do I have to take it to the lawn mower shop or will it just fill up again when. I put the oil back in the machine? Thanks for your advice in advance. I would like to keep trying to do this myself, finding it very satisfying.

This is not a good tutorial. The "clip director" mechanism is attached to the shroud on one end and handling it during the repair is an item that requires some explanation. Also, the hex bolt in the back – the retaining nut is a major pain in the neck as it simply falls out when you detach the shroud, and there is no reasonable way to put it back in place for reassembly.

Replacing the belt on my HRR216k9VLA was similar to the video with a few significant differences. It appears that each model has a different configuration so be prepared for a few surprises. In addition to removing the six bolts on the shroud, I had to remove the clip director mechanism (2 bolts & 1 Philips screw). There were no bolts holding the transmission belt guard, so I had to remove the pulley. First you have to disconnect the end of the tensioning cable which will allow you to rotate the transmission/pulley mechanism. Next, hold the rectangular end of the pulley shaft with a crescent wrench to keep the pulley from rotating while you use an open end 10 mm wrench to loosen the pulley nut. The split pulley sides will open up and allow the belt to slip off. There is a retaining nut on the torx screw which I forgot about until after I had installed the other 5 bolts. The shroud appears to be solid without the torx screw, so I didn't bother to start over. Thanks to a couple of other commenters that got me on the right track of having to remove the pulley in order to remove the belt – I was close to taking it to the shop before I read those comments.
