Honda CX500 Cafe Racer Build 29 – DIY carb manifold boot fix and clean

So we all face that problem that when we get old things break, that’s no different to a motorcycle manifold boot, cracks appear and if it’s not too bad we can try to avoid them getting worse. Here I see if a heat shrink rubber & gasket sealer will give me a little longer with these carb boots.

Quick and easy question mate. Where do you order your assortment of Allen head bolts from? Just curious.

rayman3d says:

I know some people who fixed them before those things were sold on ebay as aftermarket products. But mine where so fucked up that i bought new ones. They are well made and came with orings. ✌

Mitch Rogers says:

Where are you buying most of your replacement parts? (I.e fuel resistant O rings)

Ben Hawke says:

That was freak'n brilliant!!! The m-unit can handle your batteries. You should call them up and see if they'll do a marketing deal with you so you can get a discounted price.

The shrink tube is a grandiose idea and seems to work just fine (even improves looks). With the hairline crack you're dealing with I was a little worried about you taking a heat gun to it. Excess heat isn't optimal for aging rubber parts. One of my friends religiously cares for his rubber bike parts by coating them with DuPont Teflon Silicone lubricant (treating everything once a season; small bottle sells for $7 here in the US) which really works wonders maintaining rubber in good condition forever. I'm sure some silicon lubricant treatment will save the rubber hose if it's not totally cracked open.

Nice work. I've stripped, cleaned and re-jetted my CX500 carbs ready for pods. Where did you get the pods and what model K&N are they? Thanks

Vincent Thuillier says:

Thank you so much to share your experiences with us! Big thumps up from South Of France ! 🙂

steven fisher says:

Hi can you tell me were you get the heat sink from thanks

Rafael Sanchez says:

If you clear coat the metal part with heat paint they will not oxidize.

Robert Kwolek says:

I like the new intro, though it is really loud compared to the talking bits immediately afterwards.
