Here’s a tip I learned the hard way: If your two cooling fans go out on
this gen of CRV but the radiator still looks ok, may want to consider
replacing all three parts at the same time. The radiator is a bad design
and will fail sooner or later (my ride has 165k miles). Thanks for the
video.

Great helpful video changing mine next weekend.

what year is this CRV?

Michael Mork says:

My radiator is leaking from the same spot… clearly some kind of
design/engineering/manufacturing flaw, very irritating…

Mariano Ulibarri says:

Mine’s leaking from the same spot as well! Great video, very helpful.

Angela Newcomb says:

Jeez! Same spot for me too! I’ve tried the egg trick, stop leak, and J.B.
Weld. It’s time to replace this thing.

Richard Northover says:

Thanks so much for that! Very helpful. After seeing you do this it gives me
the confidence to replace my wife’s radiator. Interesting thing is that
hers has cracked in exactly the same place as the one you were replacing
??design floor?? Is there any need to bleed the oil or anything like that?
Or do you just push the oil hoses back on and carry on regardless? Thanks
Richard

Really same spot well well design flaw, but like you say 13 years mine is
14 so I guess it happens. Good luck and you welcome glad I could help some
how.

Mine’s gone in the same place, seems like a fatigue problem. Thanks for the
video, it’s given me the confidence to have a go at replacing mine, just
ordered a new one from ebay, £46, seemed ok for price, a job for the
weekend. Any ideas if a seized thermostat might increase the pressure on
the coolant system and tress the rad?

DaringBeefcake says:

I guess it could be a design issue.I didn’t have to do any bleeding
regarding the oil pipes. I did bleed the cooling system by topping up the
water gradually and letting the car run with the water exp. tank cap off
and the heater inside the car set to hot + blowing.Making sure the
temperature gauge is staying whiting its limits and checking there are no
leaks, and waited until the radiator fun comes on and that there is hot air
coming through the vents.Do remember the antifreeze 🙂 + good luck.

Wow thank you so much for that for that video! I to feel confident to
tackle this tomorrow. Good advice on the air bubbles as well. My radiator
cracked in the same spot. Definitely a design flaw. All forums I looked at
online mentioned the same issue. But hey, I’m not complaining, the car is
13 yrs. What did I expect.

DaringBeefcake says:

I dont think a seized thermostat would do that, everything is possible of
course, but also because there is a few of us that seam to have this
problem and in exactly the same place, so may be is just that some how the
rad is a bit weak on that specific area, and with time it starts to crack.

These cars don’t seem to be hard to work on, quite simple if you have some
mechanical knowledge.
