Right after the shift boot starts cracking, the next thing that will wear
out is the leather grip around the shift knob. If this ever happens to you,
i recommend you replace it with the OEM civic r-type shift knob. It costs a
little more than the fake aftermarket replicas (or even the original one),
but it will give you a very different feeling when you shift, it looks a
lot better than the civic si knob and it will never wear out.
