No I do not want to remove the struts completely but simply to reach the 2
x14mm bolts that are obstructed by the coil spring. If simply remove the 5
nuts in the engine compartment the strut will be displaced so that the i
can reach the 2 x 14mm bolts.

Masroq57 says:

Did the strut fall down when you unscrewed 5 nuts for engine side or you
had to unscrew the bottom of the strut? Haynes manual says to unscrew sway
bar to remove the strut – is it necessary? Great video. Thanks

heettreet says:

i can see that you are a pretty good wrench ,, but whooooooa no air ,,
you gotta be kidding me ,, i thought anybody and everybody had air

JOE BLOW says:

Very helpful.thanx

jpkoski says:

Eh, neither really. I would have turned it 90 degrees from how you did it
and wrapped the two ends around the sides of the nut, which would be the
‘correct’ way to do it (or at least that’s what I was taught.)

TheAlexManVideos says:

If you jack the car up from the deignated lifting point the suspension will
be unloaded. Grasp the tire top and bottom and wiggle, check for play and
find any source. Then grasp the wheel front and back and wiggle, check for
play and find any source. Generally, the only sources of play are ball
joints, tie rods, or wheel bearings. If the ball joint in this video is bad
then you can grab the top of the steering knuckle and wiggle it. If it
moves at all relative to the upper A arm the joint is bad

Just finished replacing my upper control arm and ball joint on my 01 coupe.
I just wanted to say thanks, without your video I would have been out there
all afternoon. Thanks man, keep posting videos!

GSRJosh33 says:

Great video! TY

Nav Mahmood says:

you have made this look very easy. thanks for all the good details
excellent video

TheAlexManVideos says:

It takes less than two minutes to jack up one corner of the car. Why try to
find another way?

Duane Carpenter says:

I didn’t understand why you used a 2×4? Also, you were changing out the
upper joint, and I never did this type of job, how do you move the
suspension spring to slide the bolts in, Is it when you loosened the top
nuts under the hood? I am changing the lower ball joint on a 97 Accord,
with an adjustable, and might have to change out the upper, ty.

gtr3cords says:

Hey i already replaced the UCA twice because when i turned you can hear the
ball joint hit. But now its doing it again. It less than a year and its the
same problem have any ideas?

Joseph Zolman says:

tj antill says:

how can u tell if its going bad any noises ?

jw200 says:

Its good to see people using real hand tools and not air tools all the time.

trucker11686 says:

Excellent informative video. Will be tackling this job on my Accord in the
next couple days.

Morphit77 says:

idea so much better.

Jeff Reed says:

marshin3 says:

miguel rosa says:

Thanks man

b1rippin says:

thanks man!

TheAlexManVideos says:

You can probably get away without doing one. I generally get one done
whenever new tires are installed or if there is a noticeable handling flaw.

Doomzdayxx says:

this is a great video. Thanks alot.

Joey Cavaloni says:

steering knuckle got it thanks

TheAlexManVideos says:

You just lift it back into position. It will go back exactly where it was.
If it’s too heavy or difficult to position by hand, use a floor jack
underneath the steering knuckle to provide upward force while you guide the
studs into their holes.

brakes940 says:

Your video helped out alot. I changed my UCA on my 2000 Accord this
weekend. I could not get the 14mm bolts out without loosening the shock
mount bolts and moving the strut and spring out of the way. Easy job and
saved myself alot of money.

nitronovice says:

Great vid. I just replaced my accord’s front left upper control arm A
little tip I may add is instead of raising the upper control arm with a
jack and 2×4 and hitting the stud directly, you could give the steering
knuckle a few good hits where the ball joint stud goes through. The stud
should just pop out on its own, and its an easier angle to work from and
you won’t have to compress the spring at all. Keep up the great work!

T Swain says:

I rest my case.

TheAlexManVideos says:

I’m just that awesome.

Gayel Hamilton says:

its true 9 times outa 10 when u press a new ball joint into an older
control arm it will fail…. i learned the hard way, tried to save a few
bucks n it ended up costing me more time and more money smh….

Mthammere2010 says:

So you have to callaps the ball itself? Did you do it with a sledge or by
screwing it until it callapsed in shape?

Ehsan Azordegan says:

Great video! I replaced my upper control arm exactly according to this
video, I just couldn’t reach the 2 14mms on the sides because of the strut.
I didn’t have enough room. So I tried to take the strut out (like it says
in the video) the only thing that I think was not in the video was the
other 17mm bolt that attaches the fork shape thing from the strut to the
lower control arm, I took that out completely and I had enough room in
there to take the bolts out! Thanks a lot!

RULAS41306 says:

where you having wheel alignment problems?? mine has alignment problems and
i was told to get a camber kit……. but maybe im going to to this as well

Joe says:

Thankyou.Helped me change my 1998.Honda CR-V.Pretty much the same
thing.Hogmosh

jw200 says:

Hi. Didn’t you notice any handling flaw by just replacing one side control
arm / ball joint? I dont know, sometimes they say, replace both sides at
once. In my car it seems that i have left one thats bad. Now im thinking
what to do. Buy just one and replace it or get more money and buy 2 and
replace both at the same time. They are not cheap.

Jim H says:

You need to learn the difference between the terms “force” and “pressure”.

TheAlexManVideos says:

@thehumble1 When researching what to do, I found it was a difficult
procedure to replace only the ball joint without a hydraulic press. And if
not done correctly, I heard that they would fail prematurely. The
aftermarket assembly was about twice the cost but less than have the
effort.
