Thanks for posting the video.I just replaced the pump on my ’98 Astro after
300,000 miles.I watched your video a couple times and it helped a lot.I’ve
had my fan shroud off 100 times so I just removed it and accessed the pump
from the top,I too had to remove the pulley first to get to the bolts, that
little tool works suprisingly well.I went underneath to remove the hoses
and unbolt the rear bracket.Works great,no more puddles or vibration at
stoplights, hope I get 300,000 out of this one.

Okay, I forgot the royal enfield, what is the other one.?

You’re welcome. I’m glad you found my video. It’s a pretty easy job as long
as you have a pulley puller tool. If you don’t have one, you can borrow one
from the auto parts store.

ACoustaDC says:

Just how many vehicles do you own?!?!?! Ya got the ford, now the van, the
buel, the fxr, the honda, and don’t you own some old car your dad gave
you??? (not sure on that one) anyway, informative as always.

hoohoohoblin says:

You blew out your power steering pump, but at least you got it on video.
Fortunately on my van the brakes and steering are separate, but if the
accessory belt breaks, then you lose power to the steering and brakes at
the same time. That happened to me once when the belt tensioner broke.

when i bought my pump it came with a little bag of extra seals. What do they
go to?

I have a 1982 Suzuki GS650G. It’s been sitting for a while and needs to
have the carbs cleaned out. It’s a really great all-around bike when it’s
running. Search my videos for Suzuki GS650G and you can see it.

You’re welcome. I’m glad you found my video. I was a little nervous about
doing the job myself, but it is pretty easy when you have the pulley
removal tool.

hoohoohoblin says:

Way too many. It was fun at first, but now there’s always something broken.
I have 5 bikes, the van and the Ford Focus. The good news is that
motorcycle insurance is really cheap, so being a motorcycle hoarder is
affordable.

Thanks for your help bud. Came across this vid while trying to diagnose a
noise in an Astro brakes and steering. I warned the guy to be careful and
be aware of possible failure and it did the same week. I could not believe
how difficult it is to control the vehicle after the failure happened.
Luckily the van was moving slowly at the time. Got the parts, tools and
working on it now. Thanks Again

I broke my power steering pump back in January doing donuts in the snow. I
was even making a video when it happened! Look for my video called “Time To
Make The Donuts”. I didn’t replace it myself though, took it to a shop and
had it done. It’s very common for the shaft to break off inside the pump.
I’m not sure about your ’93, but on my ’97 the power brakes are tied into
the power steering pump, so when that breaks you don’t have power brakes
either!

hoohoohoblin says:

I’m not sure. I didn’t get any extra parts with the pump. They may be for
the inbound and outbound hoses which connect to the pump. It’s possible one
of them uses a seal or o ring of some kind.
