Hi Nick,
have a 4L60E from 2003 Yukon SLT 4X4 5.3L, doesn’t go into 2nd gear
anymore. goes into 1st fine, will rev like a cow & eventually go into 3rd
and OD. Transmission guy thought it would be check ball stuck, redid that
and same symptoms. Now he wants to rebuild complete transmission. Make any
sense to you?

Ronn Miller says:

I find a several confusing parts to your video. As is the case with most do
it yourself video’s I watch. If you are going to take the time to do a “how
to” video, you’re normally dealing with folks who have never built one.
Therefore you and most others talk about do this and do that as if the
person already knows what they are doing, in which case, they wouldn’t need
your video. So, if you’re going to remove a part then you should SHOW EVERY
detail, not just leave the camers on the case and tell them to do it, as
they don’t normailly know what the part is, where it is, or the proper way
to remove or replace it or what it looks like. Isn’t that the point of
doing a video rebuild for those who can do with proper instruction but can
not without your video. As with all others who do these, one has to go
through 50 to finally find the one who does it complete and correct. I
would think, do it complete, or don’t do it at all. Not to be mean, just
that they don’t know what you know, yet you teach as though they already
know it. thanks

Great how-to video! Very descriptive and informative, I am very
mechanically inclined and have watched others rebuild trannys in the past,
so I’m gonna pull my 4L60E outta my 04 tahoe and start disassembling it
today, I feel much more confident doing it after watching your video,
Thanks Nick!

i have a 2001 chevy silverado 4×4 1500 with the 4L60-E and i recently
starting having problems with it i have 1st and 2nd and then 3rd still
shifts but at high rpms. wont go into 4th would you think its R&R?

Turco949 says:

I WISH I had a place where I could actually park my truck while I got the
tranny off to work on it at my own pace, I’d have loved to get to see the
inside of the tranny and rebuild it using superior alternative parts like
brass bushings and better quality sun shell, etc.

strattuner says:

i worked for GM-FORD-CHRYSLER FOR 41 years,i can honestly tell you after
building trans units in the thousands it all comes down to clean filters
and coolers, none of them are hd,after 1979,i have found weakness in most of
them, after that date, all overdrives front or rear wheel drive are VALVE
BODY SENSITIVE,in other words they need to be cleaned at the 75-80k mileage
mark, filters and coolers do nothing for metal dust which circulates in all
automatic units,it is inevitable,if you keep clean filters and coolers and
clean vale bodies on these units i’ve seen them go 300k miles as long as
the engine main bearings are good when they go the trans goes,by the why
your instruction is excellent thx

Nick Stageberg says:

Your reverse clutches are probably worn out, which requires a rebuild as I
demonstrate in this video.
