Mine is getting real sticky and when i push the button it doesn't pop up. i need a flathead to lift it. Any advice?

Just purchased this for my GMC Sierra. The instructions mention a break-in period for the seals. Does this mean I should close the cover and leave it closed for 48 hours or is it just telling me to expect that for the first couple of days it will be more difficult to open and close but use it as I need to? DO I need to do anything in particular for the first several days?
