Would it be easier to install the thermostat housing on the water pump unit before installing the water pump on the engine? At least with the pump flat on a table, less chance of the housing o-ring shifting on you, etc. Good video though, thanks for sharing!

1aauto says:

We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows you how to install an AC compressor. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Council Clarkson says:

This video was awesome! everthing went smooth! Saved me $200! Do you have one for ac compressor?

1aauto says:

If you see the car leaking while it’s parked, look directly above where it’s leaking and you should be able to see where it’s coming from. If it’s just water and not anti-freeze it could be from the AC if you were using it. Hope this helps you out. If you need more help feel free to post and we’ll try to help you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Michael Light says:

Ok guys it says to torque the bolts to 22-24 ft lbs. that seems a bit excessive. Does he mean inch pounds?

1355550 says:

Good vid thanks for posting. Saved me a lot of time got mine done in a little over an hour
Good time to take a water hose from the backside of the radiator and blast the fins out of the radiator and condensor too!! AC is noticeably colder now.

Great video! It helped me out immensely! Since I’m a novice, the job took me about 2 1/2 hours! I could really use a video on changing out the front hub/ bearing ABS sensor. Thanks!

You may want to fix the issue with the AC pulley. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Shelly13222 says:

Could a leaking water pump be the problem. I know it is leak a little bit. Just curious as to what to do in order to fix the AC pulley problem and if these two are linked in anyway. Thanks!!

Shelly13222 says:

First I would just like to say how grateful I am to you and your videos. You have helped me fix my car countless times. Now I have a question. I have an 01 Yukon and it began making a metal reverberating sound when I would accelerate, then it would eventually stop. Turns out it was the A/C pulley, it would do that and eventually break its stop off then go too far and eventually break the belt off. I have replaced the pulley and the belt a few times and it will last for a month or two……

1aauto says:

If you follow the steps taken in this video you should be fine. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Do I need to use a gasket sealer on the gaskets?

1aauto says:

If the heater core is leaking, when you turn the heat on you can usually smell it inside the vehicle it will have a sweet smell, and you may see a leak on the passenger side. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

John Letkiewicz says:

’01 GMC Sierra, 5.3 l. engine 225k miles. Never rplcd water pump. How can I tell if water leak is water pump or heater core? There is a very small amt of water in the cabin, but losing coolant under truck.

Albert Guillen says:

Great instructional video! I just finish replacing the water pump, upper & lower hoses, thermostat, ac belt and the main belt on my 2004 silverado. I was a little leery on doing this work myself but after watching this video I felt confident enough to perform the job. All went well. Thank you very much. Great video’s, keep up the great job..

erwickline says:

Awesome, 2002 GMC Sierra gettin it tomorrow.. Thanks!!

1aauto says:

You should run what’s recommended for the vehicle. You may want to flush the system out and replace the anti-freeze if it has over 100,000 miles on it.

ssz33tt says:

Very well made video. I’m going to tackle this dyi on my next day off as my 04 Yukon Denali has been leaking anitfreeze for a month now. Question, do you have to use Dexcool as recommended in the manual or can I just use the green stuff antifreeze instead?

9crew says:

Thanks guys, Just replaced my water pump. :)

stupidstt says:

Just did this repair myself, this video was a great help!! Thanks.

You’re welcome

1aauto says:

If you loosen them before you take the belt off it will put tension on the pulley and you should be able to crack them loose. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

If you’re not sure you could have the dealer run your VIN number and they could tell you how which one your vehicle has. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Thank you. Replacing my water pump on my 2001 z71. 187K miles. Your video is just what I needed. Thank you, as money is tight right now, so I can’t pay someone to do it, and I don’t mind doing it myself, just need to be shown how.

Hello and greetings form Bethlehem PA. Just replaced the water pump on my 2004, 2500 HD Sliverado 4WD@ 150,853 miles. You could not have made it any easier. I would not call myself a diagnostic genius at all,, but once I know what the problem is, I can usually replace the part. The video was exact, and I followed it to the letter. I just subscribed to your channel, great job!

1aauto says:

Yes you are correct. If it’s worn you may want to replace it with a new one.

Denise Brown says:

You did a great job in showing us how change a water pump on a 2002 GMC Yukon.
It was so easy after watching your video.
One thing I think you should put in the video is the Air Compresor belt under the waterpump.Since your are there you might as well change the belt.

1aauto says:

As long as the water pump is not leaking, you should be fine. If by chance you end up having to redo the job, you should definitely make sure that the water pump is torqued down correctly.

Vonnie Reese says:

Very good video Mike, I have one problem, I changed out my water pump on my 2002 Silverado after 146,000 miles, I did everything correct the leak has stop, my question is that I didn’t torque the bolts on the water pump, do I need to go back into it and torque the bolts? I have a feeling that I may have a little bit more torque than 22-24 PSI thanks again

1aauto says:

The water pump bolts can be reused because they are not torque to yield. Also the water pump should have a gasket used if it is provided or in some vehicles, there is an O-ring.

Radiant Remodeling & Custom Homes, Inc says:

2 questions:
1: Re-use the old block bolts or not? I’ve seen suggestions on both sides.

2: Hi temp silicone on gaskets or not? Again… seen both sides but I have been under the assumption that modern engines using o-rings need nothing.
Thanks!

1aauto says:

It looks like your on the right track. You may want to change the fluids, and give her a tune-up, also check the brakes.

Devo says:

noooooo!! not the dex cool.. haha never heard anything good bout that stuff. anyways great video. it’s gotta be the best DIY ive seen. cheers

1aauto says:

If you’re not careful and you mix Dexcool with the wrong anti-freeze it will clump up in the system. If you want to switch to regular antifreeze you should flush the system out completely, then buy a decent antiffreeze. I had to replace the radiator in my Jeep and just made the switch myself. If was a good time to do it, because I had to also replace the water pump and hoses. Hope this helps you out.

gotshirts2ink says:

Hello mike. Thanks for the video. One question. I have heard from a lot of people Not to use dexcool. What is the reason why they say that? Thanks again

RAUL HERRERA says:
