…so you cant change handle without doing soo?

1aauto says:

If you tug on the rod with your hand the latch should open, if it does not you may want to see if it has gotten stuck somehow. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

VictornMaya Garza says:

I followed this video to find that my door latch was not broken (although I broke it in process of removing it. The video was helpful in the eventual replacement of the latch. However, the inside rod is not opening the door. It is attached to the latch assembly, but there seems to be too much play. I tugged on the rod with the handle removed (how I broke it) and the door wouldn’t open. It does open from the outside. What am I missing?

Mike Cunningham says:

u guys have awesome videos! with my pickup, i found by removing the 2 10 mm bolts the handle came lose and was able to barely pull out the whole handle with the rod still attached ,. then i removed the clip and rod from the outside. saved some time… just sayin. thanks again!!

You guys are awsome I need to do this on my 94 GMC Pickup! With your videos working on the door will be a breeze! Thanks very much!

Hi AL,
We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows you how to replace the rear door handle on your 1991 GMC Suburban, however if you take the door panel off from the inside, you should be able to access the bolts that hold the handle on from inside the door. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

I need to replace the rear cargo door handle on my 1991 GMC Suburban. Is there a video that matches what I need to do? I’ll also need to replace the power window regulators (I think). The drivers window and the passenger windows work but are REALLY slow. Thanks – I’m not a handyman but I think I can follow your videos. Thanks!! Al

1aauto says:

Follow this video and you should be fine. There may be a small clip that locks the rod into place on the door handle. They aren’t hard to open, or unlock usually.

Dan Smith says:

I need to remove and replace the rod that connects from the door handle to the lock mechanism. Will I need to follow this video’s instructions and then remove the assembly? Does it have a clip that holds it in place, or will it just pop out? Thanks for the great video series and suggestions.

1aauto says:

You will want to replace both the lock and the handle. You can find aftermarket locks online but if you can’t the dealer would be your best source. You can have the lock rekeyed to your original key configuration.

Hi I have a 99 Suburban and it was stolen a while back they broke the outside door handle and the door lock cylinder .I was wondering if i should replace both parts and for the door lock cylinder where can i find it so it can match my key..do I have to go to the dealer or can I go to any store to buy it?
Thank You for your help

1aauto says:

Yes you would need to transfer the key lock cylinder to your new door handle. We carry the door handle seen in this video on our website with free shipping in the lower 48 states. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Hey, my driver side handle on my 97 Sierra has cracked. I’m going to the scrappers to pick up a new one and this video is exactly what I needed!
My only question is will I have to switch the lock cylinder out of my old handle and put it in the new one for my key to lock and unlock the door?

Thanks for your help,
Marc

1aauto says:

Hi Jeremy, You may want to make sure that all of the clips are in place and are holding the rod in position. It may be possible that one of the clips are worn, causing the rod to break free. If this is the case, you should be able to buy some new clips at the dealer. They shouldn’t be a whole lot of money. Hope this helps you out.

Jeremy Lewis says:

Hi Mike, I have replaced my outside and inside door handles on my 1996 C-1500 silverado twice now. however the rod (one thats painted red in your video) will not stay in the latch mechanism. I can dissameble the door hook it all up, reassemble the door and it will work fine for 1 to 10 openings of the door then the rod pops out of the latch mechanism and I can once again only open my door from the inside. Any help you could give would be greatly appericated.. Thanks Jeremy

1aauto says:

The door handle on your truck may be a different procedure than the one shown in this video. You may be able to apply some of these basics to it.

Joshua Combs says:

I have a 2000 K3500 Crew Cab… The driver side rear door handle broke.. Would this video be the same steps to fix mine?

1aauto says:

It could be an issue with the motor of possibly a bad connection too. You may want to check the wiring to see if there are any loose connections.

1aauto says:

You might have to.

GCUE BEATS says:

I HAVE A 98 GMC YUKON & I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE WIPERS COMING ON, IT WORKED SOMETIMES WHEN I HIT A BUMP AND NOW IT DOESN’T WORK. I OCCASIONALLY HEAR THE NOISE WHEN I TURN THE WIPER SWITCH ON. WHAT DO U THINK I SHOULD DO? I’M REALLY THINKING ABOUT REPLACING THE WIPER MOTOR

Lance Wilkins says:

you do need to pull the handle to access the tumbler removal

1aauto says:

Hi Jason, We currently do not carry a new drivers door key lock cylinder for your 99 Suburban. You might need to take the handle off to remove it. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Jason Kovacic says:

hey, thanks for the great vid. Question, my tumbler is gone inside the drivers door on my 99 burb. do i need to pull the handle to put in a new one? also i cant find a new tumbler on your site. is the expensive dealer my only option here? thanks again

1aauto says:

You “might” be able to. it’s not something that we’ve tried.

matthew earle says:

can you switch out the tumblers to have your original key?

1aauto says:

The new tumber would come with a new key.

1aauto says:

Thank you for your purchase; we hope that you found the video useful while installing your new part from 1aauto.com. Have a great day.

Tyler P. says:

Great video! And very good use of Youtube as a marketing tool. The video actually made me go to your site and give you money 🙂

1aauto says:

You would need to take the door panel off and try to pop it open from inside of the door by pulling on the cable or rod that unlatches the door.

Wayne Macaluso says:

This is a great video. One question. How do I get the passenger door open that has a broken lock. THe door is locked. I cannot open it to get the inside panel off so I can figure out what is broken.
