Fantastic! The dealer made a big deal about it and wanted $450 to fix it. I bought the part from you and did it in an afternoon. Cost me under $50!
Thanks!

nick shmyr says:

Also I’ve replaced the bulb but it basically works when it wants to

1aauto says:

Check the fuse, and also check the harness that runs between the driver-side door and the body of the truck for a broken of frayed wire that may need to be repaired. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

i have a 92 chevy truck, and my locks are out just like this, i hope my dad will fix them. he’s good with cars

1aauto says:

You may want to remove the door panel to see if the rods have become detached from the door handle. You may also be able to reattach it to the door from the inside. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

I have a 98 Chevy 1500 and something slipped off my door handle so now it just hangs there limp. Now the lock won’t work from the outside or the inside and something scrapes the window occasionally, and recently the window has started stopping (electric windows) midway through rolling it up; I also hear something jangling around in there. I have no idea what part(s) this is. I can only open my door by rolling down the window and using the outside door handle. Please help me…give me some ideas.

BuckslayerBob says:

If the lock still moves, but not enough to always lock or unlock the door, is the problem still with the actuators? The lock levers are tough to manually move up and down as well. Thanks.

1aauto says:

Unfortunately you need to replace the entire unit. Most of the pieces are riveted together and it would take longer to try and piece it back together than just tossing either a new or used unit into the vehicle.

I have electric windows, but my door is dented so I bought one from a junkyard.Only problem is that its a manual window. Is there a way to replace most of the components on the original door to the new one

1aauto says:

It may be the door lock actuator that has gone bad. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

stupidstt says:

Hopefully you can do a video on the 99-03 (maybe beyond) Silverado door fix, actuator, rely switch, or just lubing the locks and system. My locks make the noise of locking/unlocking but don’t actually lock. I can lock/unlock manually, but it is a little stiff locking it manually.

1aauto says:

If may be a similar process, we currently do not have an auto repair video that shows this particular repair.

cdoyle says:

Do you have any videos for replacing the actuator in a 99 Silverado?
This one says it only goes up to 98, so not sure how similar they are.

1aauto says:

We’ll keep this in mind in the event that we need to make this repair on a K5

Brian Lewis says:

man i wanna see this on a k5

1aauto says:

The door lock actuator in the door may be bad.

The rear tailgate door may be different. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Will these instructions work for the rear wagon door lock as well? Thanks.

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi mirage.. ive been having the problem where when i lock my car with the alarm the driver door wont lock. So ive been locking my car door from the inside but just today that didnt work either. I lock it from the inside anf close the door but eventhough it looks locked i just pull on the handle from the outside and it will open. Please help me on this! I really cant afford a mechanic.. can i do this on my own?

1aauto says:

You may want to try check the locking mechanism to see if they’re frozen.

DALE97DSM says:

what about the old style inside that are manual locks, my relative has a problem with both doors, wont lock at all.

cleanupman1645 says:

Thanks, I spoke to them. I actually had to replace my head unit and buy a harness.

1aauto says:

This repair should be the same if not pretty close on your 99 Silverado.

Aaron Richter says:

can you put a video on how to replace the actuator on a 99 silverado?

1aauto says:

Not to my knowledge. crutchfield com has a pretty good forum. You may want to see if any of those guys have tried something like this. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

cleanupman1645 says:

Hello, i have installed a Amp to my factory radio…. any way to make the turn signal flash quiter or mute it?

1aauto says:

You could ask the dealer. There has to be some type of setting that auto locks the doors somewhere. I have two vehicles that do this.

95beretta says:

It doesn’t have an alarm system at all. There isn’t an auto unlock feature either. The truck was bought new by me and it just started doing it in the past few years. The key fob works as it should. The drivers door is the only one to lock when I turn the key on.

1aauto says:

If you have an auto lock feature on the console there should be a way to turn it off. Usually the owners manual will tell you how to disable it. Either that or it could be part of the alarm system if you have one.

95beretta says:

Maybe you can answer my question. I have a ’98 Chevy Silverado with power locks. When I turn the key in the ignition, the driver side door will lock. I’ve been locked out of the truck numerous times, but I still can’t figure it out. Any ideas?

1aauto says:

You may have to play around with the latch adjustment. If it doesn’t latch at all. The latching mechanism could be stuck in the closed position. If it is you can usually get a flat head screwdriver in there and open the latches back up. If you’re not sure what it’s suppose to look like you can refer to the latch on the opposite side of the car. Hope this helps you out.

pedro de alvarado says:

hi my friend i accidentally took the door lock of my truck and it doesnt close do you think its completely damaged ? if you know a solution pleasee help me

1aauto says:

You would need to remove the door panel on the door and see if there’s something that needs to be tightened on the key lock inside of the door. It may have come loose somehow. Hope this helps.

TheRx350 says:

Love your guys’s help with something, I have a 98 Sierra manual door lock that rotates freely sometimes. When its cold (I live in the Yukon) the keys are almost impossible to turn and I feel like its gonna bend the key but then the key can spin 360 degrees plus. Is it just in need of some lube and a tighter retaining mechanism?

1aauto says:

mistermexxico says:

thanks a lot, I’ll give it a try.

1aauto says:

You may want to use a test light to see if there’s power going to the actuator inside the door. If there is then the door lock actuator is more than likely bad. If there’s no power to the actuator, check the fuse and then the door lock switch.

If there’s power coming from the switch, check the door harness that goes between the driverside door and the body of the truck. Many times a wire can become frayed or even break causing things like power windows and locks not to work.

mistermexxico says:

Hi guys, i see some are asking questions, so I’ll shoot one too.
I have a Ford F-150, half cab.. however, one of the rear doors won’t open, only the rear driver door works. is there a way to fix the other one? Something may be wrong inside the door and I don’t know what it might be, if someone could direct me to a forum or a video that would be great. Thanks.

jmacedo7 says:

Hi:

Interesting video tutorial. alone a technical question:

The light of white mica with red that is ignited on having opened the door to replace the bulb. It is nesesario to remove the lid of the door or it does to itself dede the mica thank you for his response.

hebertjj says:

Thanks for the video! My actuator from 1AAuto didn’t quite fit the bracket from my 99 Tahoe, but just a little grinding on the bracket with a MotoTool fixed it ( the hole for the alignment stud on the acutator didn’t quite match.) Also 1/8 sheet metal screws weren’t big enough to hold in the bracket holes, and since I couldn’t quickly find bigger screws, I pop riveted it with 5/32 rivets. Works great so far!

1aauto says:

There may be a frayed wire somewhere making the fuse blow.If there is, it’s probably coming in contact with something metal.

edpdx says:

Question: My passenger rear door lock went out; but I lived with it. Months later hte fuse has blown- (a 25 amp yellow mini). When I change it out, it just blows again. Is this likely the actuator from the problem door, or is this something else?
