Mine opens fine, but will not close. It just bangs against the post on the
right side since the catch falls to the closed position. I can move it
easily with a screwdriver to the position where it will close. Do you think
this is the same problem? Thanks
seems like a zip tie would work too.
I messed around for half an hour before coming in and hitting the ole
innernet. Half a minute in on the video, problem solved. Thanks!
HOw about the same instruction on a 1986 Silverado where both sides of the
linkage are connected but still not working? The handle comes up very
stiff but it does come all the way up however; it seems neither side is
engaging. Any ideas? Thanks!
Thanks nick! This was great. I broke one of the tabs on my bezel too. I
think if you pry from the top, then as soon as it pops loose, lift it up
and out. The lower tabs are different from the upper and break when you
keep rotating out from the top.
Hey thanks so much,I was at work on a Monday morning and couldn’t get my
tailgate down. Watched this and in two seconds I had it down.
How did you get the rod out from the bowels of the tailgate?
No I do no not have a video for that, but it is very straightforward.
I didn’t know that there were springs in the tailgate. Is there a video
for the spring removal? Thanks. Gene
My problem is the opposite, the tailgate won’t latch, keeps falling open.
Any suggestions? Thanks
Excellent video Nick. Identified the same green clip that broke last night
in my ’99 Silverado. A relief that it’s such a simple fix.
Looks like a search for “silverado tailgate clip” on ebay gives me some
good results.
Thanks for all your help. I’ll take it apart and see where it takes me.
I forgot to mention, it’s a 99 Sierra.
Awesome!
Do you attach the clip to the handle and then snap in the connecting rod or
vice versa?
Yep!
Great!
You know Nick, the funny thing is that i don’t think they were the correct
ones,I made them work thou. Lol. purchased from O”Reillys. Again, thank
you. The trick with the towel was helpful. First time, well you already
know where the little plastic thingumajig ended falling too.
Great! For some reason I was not able to find a kit at a local store here,
tried oreilys and autozone.
Awesome! That’s exactly why I make these videos!!
Thanks nick that was it
Thanks so much for your help
I knew this had to be a simple fix! Thanks for the help.
Great question, you must install the clip first, then snap the rod into the
clip.
It sounds like the springs have failed, if you remove the latch assembly
from the side you should be able to access them.
I have the same problem, thanks to you guys for the solution. Anymore I
consult You tube before I do ANYTHING! I was actually considering trying to
buy a used tailgate somewhere. Now I have plan! I’ll let you know how it
goes!
