The entrance to my grandmother’s garage is very narrow and she used to own
a ’93 Lincoln Continental and she must have broken the right side view
mirror god knows how many times. The thing that is good about her current
car (an ’04 Audi A4) is that the side view mirrors fold meaning they’re
less likely to break.
That is one cool grandpa you have there Daniel. I wish my grandparents were
still around. They were always fun to be around. Great work on the mirror
installation.
I have worked on Ford, GM, Peugeot, Mercedes, Toyota, Honda, Nisan etc. I
recently started doing the maintainace for a non-profit and they have six
Astro Vans (1995-2002). I will say they are the worst engineered vehicles I
have ever worked on. Mercedes engineering is excellent with Toyota and
Honda right up there. I also was a mechanic at a rental shop. In my four
years there I never had to fix a single Honda engine. The other engines
types were more prone to something going wrong.
Helpful but not exactly Easy? Looked like it takes a while and has plenty
of Murphy potential for the inexperienced. Would have helped to see the
panel removal.
you are right about the seperate piece part on the door panel and mirror.
im guessing this van is a 2005, because i installed a new door on a ’04
Astro van like this one not that long ago, and had to change the mirror
too, and it had a seperate plastic panel where the mirror nuts are, which
simply popped off, and did not require removal of the entire door panel.
The same thing happened to my 2004 GMC Safari. However, on the 2004 model,
I did not have to remove the entire door paneling. That little piece in the
corner where the mirror bolts are is separate. And I bought the entire
power mirror assembly for $100 at my local parts store (I am near Toronto,
Ontario). Dealers always overcharge.
It is the same mirror as a 90’s model gm truck. Go to local auto parts
store for a new glass that joysticks right on. I did that 2 years ago after
swiping a construction barrow and only thing broke was the glass.
It’s pleasant when you have the ability to do good for family.
cool grandpa dude hes ausome
I came here looking for the glass reinstall before heading down to attempt
it. Do you have a visual?

My grandfather was handy with fixing shoes (he was in the show business)
but the only way he knew how to fix anything else was with duck tape.

Hey Gramps – I coulda saved you $150. you can buy the glass alone and a
child could install it. Sorry the salesman ripped you off.
