2001 GMC 1500 5.3 throttle body clean and idle air control valve replacement

well today was the best as any time to rip this all apart and clean the gunk out… also we replaced that $ 180.00 idle air control valve as well.

That was a air flow sensor! U prob messed it up when u pushed on it and its
to tell your vehicle how much air its getting

I have this same GMC Vehicle. It will not start when it gets cold out. It
starts just fine when its warm. I was just wondered if this is the same

the IAC that you replaced is a valve that lets air in for the engine to run
at idle.when the engine is at idle the throttle is completely closed so air
has to pass through IAC and it limits or allows air through to make a
richer or leaner mixture to run best in conditions the other sensor is the
throttle position sensor

Think the black connector maybe the wrong way check it out in the video I

Bill, I’m pretty sure the second cable is your cruise control cable. It’s
usually a good idea to pop the whole fitting off instead of unscrewing it
out. It comes out fairly easy. Good luck getting it back like it was, it’s
probably going to take a few times. Great video, I was really interested to
see if it fixed your problem.

the other senor is a throttle position sensor and it will come right off it
will have a little notch on it just line that back up its easy

Bill, the black threaded cable connector is back to front, spin it 180 then
its back to normal, check vid 😉

what you replaced is IAC (idle air control) the other sensor on the
throttle body is the TPS(throttle postition sensor). If it is stalling out
on warm engine then replace the TPS as this tells the computer where your
thottle is open or not(the choke is on or not) hope this helps

you need to unhook battery wait couple min, and then hook it back up to
reboot the pcm

I agree with Daveslazz and his observation about you having that black
connector backwards. I believe that this particular cable is part of your
cruise control system and as such should have NO tension on it when it is
at idle. If you look back toward the beginning of your video you will see
that when you touched this cable it had a bit of slack to it.

Bill it’s your idle control solenoid. It moves in and out and controls the
idle.The other thing attached to the butterfly is called a tps or throttle
position sensor. It won’t hurt to remove it ever.

Don’t know if you figured it out by now but an IAC Valve is a stepper motor
that controls and monitors the air into the TB. The problem with him
adjusting and tinkering with it is the computer must relearn its idle since
it was replaced. On older GM cars I know this can take up to 2 1/2 to 3
days. This kind of stuff is why I hate newer engines. You shouldn’t need an
engineering degree to work on your car. lol

that screw is not an adjustment it should have no tension on it!! the
butterfly should be fully shut agains the stop!!

Might need that throtle posion sensor, that sensor isn’t hard to take out
yes its attached to end of ur butterfly as ya call it,loosen sensor it will
spring slightly back take note to which direction it does and install new
sensor at that angle with glently turn the sensor back slowly, till bolt
holes line up, and install bolts. As for on high idle my vehicle did that,
like i said before, use ur scan tool to reset ur computer after every
electronic fix/ swap out can’t hurt to do so.

throttle position sensor, hope u didnt pres down on the end of that pintle
like ya did with old one those are self adjusting. Did u run at steady
speed for 4-5mile or like 6-8k, at 45mph or 72kph Try reset ur computer
clean all codes use erase function even if nothing show, coarse before
erase make sure there is no codes, then erase to reset.
