2000 gmc sonoma plug and wire change

This GMC sonoma got a plug and wire change. I made a video because I always heard how hard it is to do the driver’s side, center plug. I had many problems wi…

Crappp I just did this for the first time three months ago. I clipped those
stupid plastic clips off I put the truck on forks all the way around.
removed the tires and pulled them all out with special tongs that made it a
little easy on the hands. crap I never had this problem with my 1994 GMC
Sonoma and its the same body style truck. LOL but it was a four banger not
a v-6 this 2002 is such a pain!

Thanks for the helpful video. It worked fine for my 2002 ZR2. Using an old
plug wire boot to help start some of the new plugs is helpful too. The
clips by far the most difficult. I just cut the old wires out and slid them
through the clips which made it much easier to release them.

Steve McGrath says:

You did exactly the same thing I did and used the same exact tools. I did
my ’03 Sonoma yesterday and the clips were the biggest pain in the ass. I
ended up just jamming them back into the grooves in the clips, and yes, the
old girl still starts right up and runs great! My suggestion to anyone
doing a tuneup on this truck is to use the 5/8″ spark plug socket, with a
3/4″ shorty offset box end wrench (center driver’s side. Like flashfyre
says, that one is the hardest one. The rest are a cakewalk.

Jeremy Mitchell says:

I just did this today and easiest way i found on my 01 sonoma is to take
steering column off

Thank you much for this video great light in the pix and all I was having a
hard time w/ the damn clips & center plug as well and that’s clever w/ the
wrench on the socket.

flashfyre says:

Yup still waiting for the little scrapes on my arms to heal. Stay happy!

THEHAPPYGERMAN says:

yea i have an 02 (they have the exact same setup) and i thought the little
clips were the worst also.

Note to anyone whith these modles Do not let your car run on less than half
a tank of gas. I burned the electric fuel pump that way. GM made it to
where the gas in the tank kept the fuel pump cool but if there is not
enough gas it over heats and burns out. the part costs $600 total cost with
labor $3-4,000 I did it myself and it required draining the fule system and
removing the gas tank completly. a very stupid set up by GM

flashfyre says:

@mercenaryg0d : Yep as mentioned in the video the clips are the worst part,
and the trick about using an “embrace” by running one arm up the (cool)
exhaust and the other through the wheel-well really helped me. The spark
plug socket and end wrench are practically mandatory for the plug located
behind the steering shaft. I am old enough to remember when apts. still let
you wrench on your car in a spot…but it’s against the rulez now it a lot
of places. Easy to clean tho.

i have a “00 4 banger sonoma done them once but the plugs are up by the
valvo cover thank god

SERGRUELAS says:

wow we were pulling our hair out today trying to change tha stupid plug. we
gave up on it cuz thoes stupid clamps were talink up most of the time.
thanx for the vid imma get back to that plug later this week. thats the
price we pay to have a v-6. you chould also tag this as s-10 extreme

MitsuEclipse06 says:

4300 V6 Right? OMG Doing plugs and wires on those things SUCK. I did plugs
and wires on a 2000 Bravada 4300 and it took me almost 5 hours to do a
simple plug and wire change. I felt your pain.

find an easy way to get it done. seems no one has posted that progect on
utube, too bad!
