thanks your video clarified a few things…however breaking the old alt
away from brackets would be helpful too..
Hey. Thats cheating takin off the fan shroud! I have replaced mine 3x and
never took it off. It was just a matter off remembering the exact way it
came out and replacing it the same EXACT position. So if you dont mind a
few little scratches on the top of your hand,anger and frustration you dont
have to remove the shroud. Hmm. On second thought, next time I may remove
it so everyone can say “Told Juh”!
I’m having that same noise on my astro, alternator bearing, just changed
tensioner pulley, thanks again will tune in again
That was easy, thanks buddy
Hey. Next time you come to visit me, bring your tools. You can fix my car
that’s warning me like cazy – that is, if it’s still running. 🙂
Well done Jeff…Smart move! Vehicles normally give warnings of when they
need a little help. It’s the people that ignore them that get stuck at the
side of the road…I would have done the same as you! Engine sounds really
sweet! Great video! 🙂
Hey nice vid, I am having charging trouble in my 96 astro. I have replaced
the alt and the battery. Is there something else that I am missing? Are
there any relays or fuses that I need to check? any help would be great!
@astrosafari727 Pretty good shape for almost 200k miles. How much miles per
gallon?
What’s the mileage?
thanks for the video. My van is making the same noise but a little louder.
It wouldnt start so i just replace cap and rotor and jumped it and it
started. And now making the same noises as yours. Took the cables off from
the jump and it dies. So im guessing its the alternater. Going to take it
and get tested. If i can get it off haha. And also going to do the same
pulley.
I’m not sure what it would be, but you might want to check your grounds. I
am not a mechanic.
@lshin80 I’ve never figured it out, but it should be around 18-19 miles to
the gallon.
i love my astro and fortunately it did make a god awful noise so I will
replace it, 240000 miles and it runs like a top. Richie from boston
how in the world do you get the connectors off the back of the alternator?
Hi, this video is very helpful, because I needed to know where the
alternator is located. I’ve just changed the battery in my 93 chevy astro,
because I had to jump it all the time even if I had to be in the grocery
store for 20min. But someone told me it could be the alternator, this van
has a new battery and I want to see what happens, if it needs a new
alternator or maybe not. But I have a question, why is van shaking under
the hood? ( engine,houses,etc) thanks.
@kan719 It will probably be in the junkyard by then!
I’ve replaced everything on the front of the engine and it’s still making
the noise. Watch my latest video about the squeaky noise. I think it’s the
fan clutch. Runs like a top!
Alternator, power steering pump, water pump, idler pulley, belt tensioner
and pulley, belt have all been replaced, New timing chain and gears, AC
compressor removed and replaced with a bypass pulley, and I still have the
noise! Watch my video for the AC bypass pulley installation. I think it’s
the fan clutch.
@paperweightgirl Thanks, Lynn!
@lshin80 195,157 miles.
Thanks for the reply. I am veering towards grounds and burnt cables now!
I tend to take a lot of bad shots with my camera too. Nice vid.
@88GTi Thanks, Jon!
